Parisians rush to shops ahead of coronavirus lockdown

Paris, March 17, 2020 (dpa/NAN) Parisians, on Tuesday formed long queues outside supermarkets, butchers’ shops, and pharmacies as they came out for a final round of shopping ahead of movement restrictions effective from noon (or 1100 GMT).
Most of those waiting are keeping at least a metre away from other shoppers. At one of the few open post offices in central Paris, the well-spaced queue stretched far around the corner.
City buses passing by, invariably empty or with only a handful of passengers on board.
However, along the Seine, repair work had since stopped on the railed-off shell of Notre Dame Cathedral, but some people were still strolling or jogging along the riverside streets. (dpa/NAN)
