Enugu, April 2, 2019 (NAN) The Police in Enugu on Tuesday, arraigned three accused persons in an Enugu East Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy and stealing of property and cash.
The three accused, Raymond Eze, 61, Chidinman Eze, 32 and Anthonia Eze, 44, who are all from Enugu East Local Government Area, pleaded not guilty to the three count charges leveled against them.
The Prosecutor, Mr Emmanuel Agha told the court that the matter was reported at Abakpa Nike Police Station on Dec. 2018 by Onyinye Madu on behalf of their company.
Madu, represented Hurricane Energy Ltd, Enugu, the owner of the property and cash that were allegedly stolen by the defendant.
He added that the property include a Siena bus, cash of N5, 591, 115 and other accessories allegedly owned by the company.
The prosecutor said that the second defendant (Anthonia Eze) collected N2m from Chidinma Eze, a staff of the company from where she allegedly stole the money.
He noted that Anthonia was the person, who bought the Siena bus with Raymond’s name, adding that Raymond was aware of the deal and that it could not be possible for Anthonia, a teacher to raise a huge amount of money to purchase a Siena bus.
The defense counsel, Mr G. Egbo, pleaded with the court to order the police to release the defendants’ property which were collected from them at the time of their arrest.
Egbo said that Raymond’s car, the three defendants’ phones and some drinks were collected by the police during their arrest.
The Magistrate, Mr Denis Ekoh said that the court would confirm if the items were actually taken from the defendants in the next sitting.
Ekoh adjourned the matter until May 15, for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
