Enugu, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) The Enugu State Police Command has nabbed a kidnapping and human trafficker syndicate that specilaises in abducting and selling little children within the South East.
The command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday, said the kidnapping and human trafficking gang were arrested by the police who also recovered a little girl sold at N350,000 in Abia State.
Amaraizu said that the report of a missing little Chinecherem Irechukwu (4), a pupil of Unity Nursery/Primary School in Inyi Community was made to the police on Dec. 15, 2016 by Inyi Community in Oji River LGA of Enugu State.
“Following the development, the incident was reported to the state command where it was referred to the Gender/Anti-Human trafficking section of the state criminal intelligence and investigations department.
“In the course of investigations and following intelligence report, one Miss Chinedu Chukwu, who was later discovered to be the immediate younger sister to the mother of the victim, Chinecherem was nabbed and taken in for questioning.
“Following the revelation she made, Mr Osunkwo Chinonso was also nabbed and further revelations revealed that Chinonso is the boy friend to Chinedu Chukwu.
“And that they had on that fateful day conspired and proceeded to the school where the little chinecherem Irechukwu was allegedly tricked and whisked away to Iho Olokoro in Umuahia Abia State, where the child was allegedly sold to one Florence Nwokocha at N350,000.
“Police detective armed with information, arrested Nwokocha who assisted the police to recover the abducted and sold little Chinecherem Irechukwu on Jan.16 from a place where she was kept at Faulks Road, Aba in Abia State, awaiting buyer with a fabulous amount of money,’’ he said.
Amaraizu noted that police had launched a full scale investigation and manhunt for the keeper of the little girl in Aba, Abia state.
“All the suspects are assisting the police in their investigations just as little Chinecherem Irechukwu has rejoined her family,’’ he added.
Reacting, the mother of the girl, Mrs Irechuwu, thanked God and the police for their prompt action and discreet investigations which led to the arrest of all the suspects and rescue of her daughter, “It is God’s work’’.
She said she was however shocked by her immediate younger sister’s involvement, saying that she never in life believed that the sister could do such a woeful thing to her. (NAN)
