Police to partner KWASU on women empowerment, others

Ilorin, July 5, 2018 (NAN) The Police Command in Kwara says it will partner with the State University (KWASU), Malete, in the areas of entrepreneurship, women empowerment, solar energy and environmental landscaping to enhance its operations.
The Commissioner of Police, Aminu Saleh, said this on Thursday while receiving the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah, in his office.
Saleh said the partnership became necessary to make life better for the police personnel and their families.
”A large percentage of the police personnel live in the barracks with their families, and programmes like skills acquisition and entrepreneurship education would go a long way to empower their wives.
”We also have interest in the solar project of the university as it will complement power supply in the police barracks.
”The command would look at the institution’s programmes from the 21st century angle and consider possible areas of collaboration for mutual benefits,” he said.
The commissioner of police, therefore, commended the university leadership for the achievements so far recorded especially in curtailing cultism on their campus.
He advised other institutions in the state to take a cue from KWASU, just as he pledged to post more personnel to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Malete, in response to the growing population in the area.
Earlier in his address, the vice chancellor said it has become his tradition to pay courtesy visit to the newly posted commissioners of police in the state.
He said the university has been a partner in progress with the police and other security agencies in the state.
Na’Allah disclosed that the institution has established the first Institute of Advanced Military Studies in Africa which would start operations in August.
He said the rationale for establishing the Institute was to enhance the level of intellectualism in Nigeria and across Africa, so as to tackle the many security challenges facing the continent.
”The Institute would award PhD degree in Military Studies; the programme is open to qualified military personnel, paramilitary, the police, and the civilians.
“Your background is exciting and we would like to have you on our campus to give a lecture when our Institute of Advanced Military Studies starts (in August, 2018),” Na’Allah said.
The vice-chancellor, who had requested posting of more police personnel to Malete, noted that the institution needs more security manpower to match its growth and maintain peaceful coexistence with the host community. (NAN)
