Poor electricity stalls water supply in parts of Jos – Board

Jos, March 20, 2020 (NAN)The Plateau Water Board says poor electricity supply and other technical hitches are hampering its provision of potable water to some parts of Jos and environs.

Mr Nangor Ndam, the board’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), said this in a statement on Friday in Jos.

Ndam said the poor electricity supply to the Yakubu Gowon treatment plant had contributed to the current erratic water supply to some areas.

“The Management of Plateau State Water Board regrets to inform its numerous customers and the general public that it has a major technical problem and also lack of frequent electricity supply at the Yakubu Gowon treatment plant

“In view of this, some areas in Jos and environs are currently not getting regular water supply until the repairs are made and also the restoration of regular electricity supply at the treatment plant.

“The affected areas include Bukuru, Dandinkowa, Kufang, Federal and State Low-cost Housing Estates, Howlshe, Tudun Wada, Joseph Gomwalk Road, GRA, and Bauchi Ring Road.

“Others include Bauchi Road, University of Jos, Katako, Apata, Alheri, Utan, Kabong, Rukuba Road, Rayfield, Gura Topp, Farin-Gada, Mista Ali, among others,” he said.

He, however, said “our Lamingo water treatment plant, near British American junction and that of Nabor Gowom are working and giving water to some areas within Jos city.

 “Members of the public who are not getting water are to go to the aforementioned treatment plants and get their potable water,” he said.

The PRO said the board’s team of engineers were working hard to address the technical hitches, and  called on the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) to improve on the supply of electricity at the treatment plant. (NAN)
