Present gov’t to develop land for Diaspora Medical City before end of tenure – FCT minister

Abuja, March 17, 2020 (NAN) The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Bello has given assurance that the present administration will develop the sizeable land earmarked for Diaspora Medical City before the end of its tenure.
A statement by Gabriel Odu of NIDCOM’s Media, Public Relations and Protocol department quoted the minister as saying this when he received the management of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) led by the Chairman/CEO, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
According to the commission, the minister believes that to curb medical tourism, such infrastructure seen in developed climes should be provided in Nigeria, hence his commitment to ensuring that the plan for a Diaspora Medical City is achieved.
The minister also promised to create an environment conducive for attracting massive Diaspora investment in the Federal Capital Territory in sectors such as real estate, transportation, tourism and allied services, among others.
He said that a Diaspora Focal Point Officer had been appointed to interface with the commission from FCT.
The minister promised to participate in all events organised in the FCT by the commission.
Earlier, Dabiri-Erewa had requested the minister’s intervention in the appointment of a Diaspora Focal Point Officer and the creation of a Diaspora Desk Office in the FCT.
She also invited the minister to host as well as attend the 2020 National Diaspora Day which will coincide with Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary and other Diaspora events in the year.
The minister and the NIDCOM boss discussed several issues including the National Diaspora Investment Summit, Plans for a Diaspora investment fund, the successful Nigeria-Saudi Investment
Forum, Data Mapping of Nigerians in Diaspora, and the Maiden National Diaspora Merit Award 2020. (NAN)
