Printer docked over alleged N98, 000 theft

Lagos, March 4, 2020 (NAN) A 23-year-old printer, Oluwasegun Lawal, was on Wednesday brought before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing his employer’s N98,000

The defendant, who resides in Apapa area of Lagos State, is facing one count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in January at Suru Alaba area of Ajegunle.

Ekundayo said that the defendant stole N98, 000, belonging to the complainant, Mr Adeyinka Kuforinji, who employed him as a Sales Clerk.

He told the court that the complainant had employed the defendant in January to man his Point of Savings (POS) office.

Ekundayo said the defendant was found to have stolen a total of N98, 000, being the total short falls discovered that same month in the account books.

He said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for convicted offender.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Morafa, granted the defendant bail of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Morafa further directed that the sureties must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of three years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until March 6 for mention. (NAN)
