Ibadan, Dec. 16, 2019 (NAN) A processor, Mr Duro Kuteyi, on Monday called for improvement in food processing (conversion of food crop to shelf stable form) to boost the economy, create jobs, wealth and adequate market for farmers.
Kuteyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Spectra Industries Ltd., Lagos, said in Lagos that improved processing would also guarantee food security and reduce the amount of money spent on importation.
Kuteyi spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
He added that it would boost the country’s gross domestic product export.
According to him, Spectra had produced cocoa powder with enormous health benefits as well as ‘Sobake flour’ in an effort to harness the benefits of food processing.
He told NAN that the production had resulted in reduction in importation of de-fatted soybean flour.
“Sobake flour is added to the regular flour to improve the yield, taste and keep quality without dramatically changing the taste,” he said.
Kuteyi said that through the production of de-fatted soybean flour, the food industry had sustainable raw materials to fortify products with quality protein. (NAN)
