Rivers House of Assembly Commission chairman debunks non-salary payment allegations

Port Harcourt, May 16, 2018(NAN) Mr Chidi Amadi, Chairman, Rivers State House of Assembly Commission, has debunked allegations that staff of the assembly have not been paid salaries for many months.

Amadi was reacting to recent allegations of non-performance against the assembly by a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, Martins Mannah.

Mannah had accused the assembly of docility, corruption and disservice to the state in addition to owing assembly workers for several months.

The assemblyman also accused the Speaker, Mr Ikunyi Awaji-Ibani, of improper utilisation of funds up to N600  million.

The commission chairman said the assembly was up-to-date with the payment of workers’ salaries and other emoluments.

“No worker in the state assembly is owed, salaries have been paid up to the last month; the allegation of non-salary payment is baseless.

“ The assembly commission and indeed the leadership of the legislature have been proactive in dealing with administrative issues,’’ he said.

Amadi said that routine maintenance works had continued to be undertaken on the assembly complex within the resources available to the system.

“To say the assembly complex is unkempt and lacking in maintenance is not true, the leadership is doing well to keep the complex in a state befitting for lawmaking,’’ he said. (NAN)
