RTEAN acting President urges members to embrace peace, unity

Lagos, Sept. 19, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Mohammed Musa, Acting National President, Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), has urged his members nationwide to be peaceful in going about their duties and work toward unity.

Musa, at a news conference on Thursday in Lagos, promised to uphold the association’s constitution and prioritise the members’ welfare.

He also urged all the zonal chairmen to ensure adequate coordination of the union activities in their respective zones and areas.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Musa was appointed the acting National President by the National Executive Council (NEC) of RTEAN at its meeting on Tuesday in Lagos.

NAN also reports that he was elevated from the Deputy National President (Administration) to the new position following the removal of Mr Osakpanwan Eriyo by NEC.

The RTEAN NEC also announced the removal of the union’s Secretary-General, Mr Ibrahim Yusuf, and was replaced by Mr Henry Ejiofor, the Deputy Secretary-General, also in acting capacity.

Musa promised that he would not do anything outside the association’s constitutional provisions, urging members nationwide to be peaceful while going about their duties.

“I thank NEC for this appointment, and I will not let them down, and I will not disappoint members of our great association.

“All members and zonal chairmen should go back and resume duties and coordinate activities in their respective areas.

“I promise all members that I will follow and implement whatever is in the constitution of RTEAN. There must be peace and unity,” the acting president said.

On his second term bid as Lagos State Chairman, Musa said though his first term tenure had not ended, the state, zonal and chapels’ executive members had passed resolution for continuity of the present executive.

He said the purported dissolution of the state executive council by Eriyo was illegal, null and void, adding no NEC meeting was conveyed for that approval.

Musa, justifying holding the NEC meeting in Lagos, said that the association had conducted its meetings in Osun, Bauchi, Niger and Ogun before it decided to hold the one in Lagos State.

Also, Ejiofor said that his appointment was constitutional, saying, “RTEAN is not a one-man affairs.

“I am worried about the association, and concerned about what to do to bring it back to normalcy. What happened has now brought back the association to the owners,’’ he said.

Ejiofor pledged his loyalty to Musa, assuring members that he would continue to show leadership by example.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Eriyo dismissed his expulsion, saying that it would not stand.

According to him, Lagos State is not the National Secretariat of the association to make such pronouncement. (NAN)
