Threats

Moscow, Aug. 16, 2017(Sputnik/NAN)Russia hopes the heated rhetoric of mutual threats from the leadership in the United States and North Korea has cooled down, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday.

“We are noting that this rhetoric has quieted down recently, and it is probably to be hoped that the hot heads have cooled down,” Lavrov said during a news conference.

President Donald Trump, responding to North Korea’s pledge to retaliate following a unanimous Aug. 5 UN Security Council adoption of U.S.-drafted sanctions, warned of “fire and fury” if Pyongyang continued issuing threats.

That elicited an announcement that North Korea was considering a missile attack near the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam.

After weeks of posturing, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pulled back on his threat to test fire ballistic missiles off the coast of Guam. (Sputnik/NAN)
