Skills acquisition: Diaspora returnee trains 800 youths, women on vocational skills

Njaba (Imo) April 10, 2018  (NAN) No fewer than 800 persons, comprising youths and women in Imo are undergoing training on various  vocational skills to make them self-reliant.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme is being sponsored by a Diaspora returnee, Chief Alex Nnabue.

Speaking at the opening of the training on Tuesday at Njaba, Imo, Nnabue said it was aimed at creating jobs and impacting positively on the youth and women of his community and the state.

Nnabue, a medical doctor and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed concern over the plight of people in his community.

“My decision to return back to Nigeria is to serve my people and to give them a sense of belonging in terms of economic empowerment and provision of social amenities to improve their standard of living.

“This skills acquisition programme is one of many programmess I have lined up for my people as a mark of concern for their wellbeing.’’

The returnee medical doctor also said that he had been carrying out free medical outreaches in his community as a way of giving back to the society.

He explained that the training, supported by the office of the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Youths and Students Affairs, Mr. Nasir Adhama was a “tip of the iceberg.’’

According to him, each participant will be given a soft loan at the end of the training to enable them start their own business.

“I believe this will go a long was in reducing the high rate of unemployment in the country.’’

Also speaking, Mr. Lawrence Kyuka, the National Coordinator Basic Skill Acquisition and Vocational training Programme in Nigeria, said that participants were being trained on how to make beads, wire works, soap/detergent, New Media & Website Design, video production and photography among others.

kyuka commended the Diaspora returnee for the gesture, which he said would go a long way in transforming the lives of the youth and women in the constituency.

He expressed the hope that the trainees would be employers of labour after acquiring the necessary skills of their choice.

He urged well to do Nigerians, philanthropists and corporate organisations to emulate Ngalue by giving back to the society as God had bestowed on them His grace. (NAN)
