Taekwondo practitioner urges members to be conversant with current trends

Lagos, June 1, 2018 (NAN) Ferguson Oluigbo, President, Nigeria Taekwondo Referees Association (NRTA), says there is the need for athletes to be conversant with the trends in their sport to enable them perform efficiently.

Oluigbo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that it was in recognition of such lapses that the body would organise a workshop later in June.

The NRTA in conjunction with the World Taekwondo will hold Competition Rules workshop from June 29 to June 30 at the National Stadium, Lagos.

He added that the programme was fundamental for Grand Masters (GM) coaches, instructors, black-belters and athletes to boost their coaching, officiating and participatory abilities in championships.

“This is part of efforts to operate on the same frequency with the world body, and the purpose is to put members in the-know of competition requirements as a coach, referee and athlete,

“It’s going to review and analyse all the current theory and practical aspects of fighting and officiating rules, being the reason it has thrown it open for major stakeholders,’’ he said.

The NTRA president urged members to make themselves available for the two-day programme, and take advantage of the presence of seasoned resource persons and ask questions on any aspect of the sport.

He told NAN that the programme would be under the auspices of the Coaches Association of Nigeria (PITCAN), to enhance the general standard of the sport and its members.

“We are trying to reduce mistakes in competitions to the lowest level, so this is an opportunity for practitioners to have first-hand information and avoid doubts,’’ he added.

Oluigbo noted that the participation fee for coloured belters was N1, 000, Black Belters N1, 500 and N2, 000 for coaches, while members were advised be in their dubok uniform for easier identification. (NAN)
