Nasarawa Assembly Deputy Leader urge youths to ignore calls for revolution

Lafia, Aug. 7, 2019 (NAN) Mr Daniel Ogazi, the Deputy Majority Leader, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged Nigerians to ignore revolution calls in the country by some unpatriotic elements.
Ogazi (APC-Kokona East) made the call on Wednesday while playing host to All Progressives Congress (APC) Young Patriots, Nasarawa State chapter, in Lafia.
The lawmaker, who said that President Muhammadu Buhari needs not to be distracted, enjoined youths to shun marches and support the present administration in the interest of peace and national development.
He commended the group for the visit and assured them of the assembly’s readiness to enact laws that would have direct bearing on the lives of the young people and the people of the state at large.
“I want to commend you for the visit and to assure you of my support at all the time to take the forum to the next level.
“I want to use this medium to call on you and other youths to ignore revolution calls by some Nigerians.
“As the calls will not take the country to anywhere.
“President Buhari is doing his best and has the ability to take the country to the next level of development,” he said.
Ogazi said that, as a core founder of the group, he is planning a symposium across North Central states to drum support for President Buhari and APC administration at all levels.
He also called on them to be patient with the APC government, adding that it is working round the clock to bring the much needed dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
Besides, the deputy majority leader solicited for prayers and support for other leaders to succeed in the tasks ahead of them.
Earlier, Mr Nindang Manasseh, the Secretary of the group, said that the visit was to congratulate Ogazi on his successful inauguration as member and deputy majority leader of the House.
Manasseh said that the visit, among other things, was to discuss with Ogazi, who is the core founder of the Young Patriots, on how to move the group forward. (NAN)

Lafia, Aug. 6, 2019 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has cautioned residents against building on water ways and river banks to prevent flood in the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, made the appeal while adopting a resolution under matters of public interest at plenary on Tuesday in Lafia.
The resolution followed a motion raised by Mr Daniel Ogazi (APC-Kokona East).
Abdullahi said that flooding had claimed many lives and property, hence the need for people of the state to take precautionary measures against the menace.
“I want to appreciate Mr Daniel Oga Ogazi for coming up with the matter of flooding in Shabu and other places across the state.
“I also want to commend other members for contributing positively on the issue.
“It is in view of this that the House passed the resolution urging the state government to take proactive measures by directing the relevant agencies to sensitise the people on the dangers of dumping of refuse along water channels.
“To avoid building on water ways and river banks in their interest and for the overall development of the state and the country at large.
“When these measures are taken, it will go a long way in addressing the issue of flooding as well as save lives,” he said.
The speaker therefore directed the Clerk of the House, Mr Ego Maikeffi, to communicate the resolution to the governor for further necessary action. (NAN)

Assembly, Agency collaborate to boost quality healthcare delivery in Nasarawa

Lafia, July 24, 2019 (NAN) The Nasarawa House of Assembly says it will continue to collaborate with the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency to boost quality healthcare services in the state.
Alhaji Mohammed Alkali (APC-Lafia North), the Chairman of the ad hoc Investigation Committee on Local Government funds, made this known on Wednesday when the management of the agency appeared before the committee in Lafia.
He said that the importance of healthcare delivery to the socio-economic development of the society cannot be overemphasised, hence the need for the assembly’s commitment in that direction.
While noting that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, he said the support any effort at boosting healthcare service delivery.
Alkali noted that the committee have been receiving inputs from relevant stakeholders to find lasting solution to the issue of local government salary in order to improve the system.
“Our discussion with the management of the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency is fruitful.
“The work of the committee is not to witch hunt anybody, but to make sure that the right things are done to find lasting solution to issues affecting local government system in the state.
“We are happy that the agency is one of the best agencies in the country, committed to the health and wellbeing of the people of the state,” he said.
Alkali assured the people of the state of the assembly’s continued commitment to do the needful in order to come out with positive solutions to issues affecting the local government system.
Dr Usman Addis, the Executive Chairman of the agency, lauded the assembly members for their role in ensuring quality healthcare service delivery in the state.
He said the agency had put in place measures to checkmate truancy and encourage hard work to boost effective service delivery.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that he Speaker of State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, on July 16 set up the six-man committee to investigate the finances of the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The committee is to investigate the non-payment of June salary of local government workers and other ‘unnecessary’ deductions from the council funds in the state. (NAN)

Lafia, July 22, 2019 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Ad hoc committee investigating non-payment of June salary to local government workers and other unnecessary deductions has discovered series of anomalies in the local government system in the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, made this known on Monday after the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, presented an interim report at plenary in Lafia.
The speaker thereafter approved additional three weeks for the committee to do a thorough job in order to bring total sanity to local government administration in the state.
He regretted that the problem was affecting the entire state and advised the chairmen of the 13 local government councils to pay salaries this week unfailingly as promised.
“This report revealed 13 areas of concern and anomalies such as indiscriminate promotions and implementation of promotions, duplication of names in the pay vouchers.
“Names of retired and deceased staff continued to exist in the payment voucher of local governments and same in development areas.
“It was also found out that by the allocation of June 2019 only four local governments in the state can comfortably pay their salary 100 per cent.
“These are Awe, Keffi, Keana and Wamba, while the other nine local governments cannot pay due to paucity of funds compared to their wage bills,” he said.
Abdullahi enjoined the committee to find a lasting solution to the problems of local government administration in the state in the interest of peace and development.
Presenting the interim report earlier, Alkali (APC-Lafia North) prayed for additional time to enable the committee complete its assignment.
“We are yet to meet the management of the state Primary Health Care Development Agency and the Pension Board on the matter due to time factor.
“There are a lot of discoveries made by the committee while discharging our assignment,” he said.

Lafia, July 17, 2019 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) ad hoc committee investigating non-payment of June salary to local government workers and unnecessary deductions of local council funds in the state has called for constructive contributions from the general public.
Mr Mohammed Alkali (APC-Lafia North), the Chairman of the committee, made the appeal at the commencement of sitting on Wednesday in Lafia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that those in attendance during the sitting included the State Accountant General, Mr Zakka Yakubu; Special Adviser to Gov. Abdullahi Sule on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr John Mamman; and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bala Sani, among others.
Alkali said that the investigation was not to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that right things were done for the benefit of the local government staff, people at the grassroots and for the overall development of the state.
He noted that the state was a civil service state, hence the need to ensure that salaries of workers were paid as at when due.
“Yesterday, July 16, matter of urgent public importance was raised over non-payment of June salary to local government staff and other unnecessary deduction of local government funds in the state.
“And the matter touches the lives of every person in Nasarawa State.
“Local government staff June salary has not been paid, we want to know why they have not been paid, among other issues.
“I don’t want anybody to see the investigation as a witch-hunt but to correct any abnormality if discovered in the interest of our people,’’ he said.
The chairman further assured the people of the state of the assembly’s readiness to pass resolutions that would have direct bearing on their lives.
NAN recalls that the legislature on July 16 set up a six-man committee to investigate the finances of the state ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs to probe the development.

The House gave the committee two weeks to submit its findings. (NAN)

Sokoto Assembly passes Bill to amend hospital services

Sokoto, May 15, 2019 (NAN) The Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a law to amend the state hospital services management board law 1992.
This followed the consideration of a report by the House Committee on Health presented by the Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Arzika-Sarki, on Wednesday in Sokoto.
Arzika-Sarki (PDP-Sokoto North II), who sponsored the bill, said that the state hospital services board law 1992 was obsolete and needed urgent review.
“As such the purpose of sponsoring the amendment to generally review the laws in order to suit the present age.
“Moreover, base on the recommendations of the committee, the board shall have the power to establish or merge department or unit on the recommendation of the Executive Director.
“Section 14 of the principal law will be included in the amendment bill in order to increase limitation figure of N250,000 for maintenance and minor works.
“The figure to be increased to N25 million in order to be in line with proposed amendment of Section 15 of the principal law in the bill,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, who presided over the plenary, said that the bill be read the third term and pass, while the members unanimously accepted it in a voice vote.
In another development, the Assembly has unanimously accepted a private member bill sponsored by Arzika-Sarki to amend the state Primary Health Care Development Agency Law 2010.
The bill is to provide for procedure in the funding of the agency and related matters.
The committee recommended that additional sections be provided in the bill to make provision for the establishment of Primary Health Care Development Authority in each of the 23 local government area of the state. (NAN)

INEC declares APC candidate winner of Ijebu-Ode State Constituency

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), March 10, 2019 (NAN) Mr Kemi Oduwole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Ijebu-Ode State Constituency seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly elections of March 9.

Declaring the results of the election  on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Dr Oluseye Onabanjo, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Returning Officer said Oduwole satisfied  all requirements of the law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oduwole, with 10,180 votes, defeated his closest rival from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Azeez Ogedengbe who polled 8,152 votes.

Former House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Tola Banjo of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) came third with 4,283 votes.
Oduwole would be replacing incumbent, Hon. Wale Alausa of the PDP.

“Oduwole Kemi Olaitan of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scoring the highest votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Onabanjo said.

The total number of votes cast by the electorate from 11 wards in Ijebu-Ode was 27,166, number of total valid votes was 26,006 while 1,160 votes were recorded as void.

The total  number of registered voters in Ijebu-Ode is 79,841. However, only 27,243  voters were accredited for the polls. (NAN)

Yola, Dec. 19, 2018 (NAN) The Adamawa House of Assembly on Wednesday passed four Bills into law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bills are that of a law to provide for a consolidated Administrative Staff Salary Structure for Administrative officers sponsored by Hassan Barguma (APC-Hong) and a law to repeal the Adamawa State Health Insurance Scheme Law No. 7 and to establish Adamawa State Health Insurance Agency sponsored by Rufai Umar (ADC-Gombi).

Others are the Law to Regulate the Establishment and Management of Private Schools and the Law to increase the retirement years of Teachers of Primary and Secondary schools in Adamawa State sponsored by Abdullahi Yapak (APC-Verre).

Passage of the bills followed their third reading at the plenary presided by the Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, who directed the Clerk of the House to transmit clean copies of the bills for the governor’s assent.

The house had before the plenary observed a minute silence in honour of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, who was shot by gunmen on Tuesday along Abuja-Keffi road and late Aminu Ahmed, a Personal Assistant to the Speaker, who also died on Tuesday after a brief illness.

Meanwhile, the house has suspended its Standing Order 14 sub-section 2 to enable it sit on Thursday and Friday.

The suspension of the order followed a motion to that effect moved by the Majority Leader, Hassan Barguma. (NAN)

Lafia, Nov. 4, 2108 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Sunday described the death of the Emir of Awe, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, as a colossal loss to the people of the state.
The House also described Umar as a rare gem with an unparalleled accommodative posture.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Assembly Speaker, Alhaji Jibrin Gwamna, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
The statement quoted the speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, describing the first class traditional ruler as shocking and too sudden.
He said that the death of Umar has created a vacuum to the people of Awe and the state at large, adding that his demise is a great loss not only to the Awe traditional council but to the entire state.
Abdullahi said that Umar had worked tirelessly for the emancipation of the people of Awe and the state at large, adding that “his (Umar’s) demise would be felt by the people of the state’’.
“The Late Sarkin Awe is a peace maker, promoter and a bridge builder and he has also contributed a lot to the development of not only Awe but to the state at large.
“The news of the death of Alhaji Abubakar Umar was heartbreaking, painful but God gives life and takes at will.
“We the entire members of the House commiserate with the family and indeed the good people of Awe and the state at large over the death of our rare gem.
“We (legislators) urge the family and Awe traditional council not to be depressed but to be courageous and have faith in God as well as to see his death as an act of God,’’ the statement read in part.
He prayed God to grant the entire family and Awe traditional council the fortitude to bear the loss.
The speaker also called on the people of the state to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
NAN recalls that Umar died on Nov. 3 at the aged of 69 at a hospital in Abuja following a brief illness having spent 33 years on the throne.
The deceased had been buried in Awe according to Islamic rites. (NAN)

Kokona (Nasarawa State), Aug. 22, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education has tasked the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to ensure full execution of school projects.
The Chairman, Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Mr Daniel Ogazi, gave the task while inspecting selected school projects in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.
Ogazi (APC-Kokona East) enjoined the board to adopt an effective supervision of all the ongoing school projects to ensure quality work by contractors.
He warned that the legislature would reject any sub-standard building and roofing materials used by any contractor, advising that they should ensure that work was done according to specification.
The lawmaker faulted the roofing design of three blocks of classrooms at Bokoko Local Education Authority (LEA), promising to draw attention of the consultant of the project for redress.
He also advised contractors handling different projects in the state to ensure quick delivery of quality work.
“The committee will continue to embark on its oversight functions to ensure quality work by contractors to justify government’s huge investment in the education sector.
“I want to use this medium to advise the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and contractors handling school projects against shoddy work and other sharp practices.
“We are tasking the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on effective supervision of all ongoing schools projects to ensure that quality work is done by contractors.
“We are not going to fold our hands and watch contractors or anybody to sabotage the efforts of government in improving the standard of education.
“We will reject any sub-standard job in the interest of the education sector and the overall development of the state,’’ he said.
He reiterated the commitment of the legislators to the enactment of people oriented laws that would fast track the development of the state.
The committee chairman called on the people of the area to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee inspected school projects at Maisori and Bokoko, all in Kokona local government area of the state. (NAN)
