Kano Pillars team manager Baleria buried in Kano

Kano, Feb. 26, 2020 (NAN) The remains of Kabiru Baleria, team manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, were laid to rest in Kano on Tuesday.

The funeral prayers were led by the Chief Imam of Murtala Mosque in Kano metropolis, Sheikh Kabiru Dan’taura, at Durumin Zungura quarters at the family house of the late Baleria.

Among those who attended the funeral prayers were a former Kano State Head of Service, Auwalu Na’iya, and a former Chairman of the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Ibrahim Galadima.

Others included the Chairman of Kano Pillars FC, Surajo Shuaibu, and several other football stakeholders.

The former national under-17 and later under-20 assistant coach died on Tuesday afternoon at Kano hospital after a protracted illness.‎

Baleria’s corpse was buried at ‎Dandolo cemetery in Kano metropolis.

Shortly after the funeral prayers, Shuaibu led the management officials, players and technical crew of the club to condole the family of the late Baleria.

The chairman who declared a three-day mourning period for all members of the Kano Pillars family described the late Baleria as honest and dedicated.

Shuaibu then suspended the team’s training till Friday morning.(NAN)

Kano Pillars’ friendly with Under-23 Eagles called off

Kano, Aug. 30, 2019 (NAN) Kano Pillars Football Club on Friday called off their planned friendly match with the national under-23 male team.

The club’s Media Officer, Rilwanu Malikawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the match was cancelled due to some unavoidable circumstances.

He added that Kano Pillars would now instead take on newly-promoted Jigawa Golden Stars on Sunday at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

“This new match is being organised to congratulate the Jigawa State Government and her citizens on the success recorded by Jigawa Golden Stars in the just-concluded 2018/2019 Nigeria National League (NNL),” Malikawa said.

NAN reports that Kano Pillars which finished second last season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) recently crashed out of the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League.

They had lost 3-4 aggregate to Ashanti Kotoko of Kumasi in Ghana in the preliminary stage of the league, after a 2-0 second leg loss to the Ghanaian side.

NAN also reports that Jigawa Golden Stars were promoted to the NPFL from the NNL.(NAN)

NPFL: Kano Pillars beat Delta Force 3-0

Kano, May 20, 2019 (NAN) Kano Pillars Football Club on Monday defeated visiting Delta Force FC of Asaba 3-0 in a 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match.

Team captain Rabiu Ali opened scores from the penalty kick spot in the 19th minute of the Match Day 21 fixture which was played at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The two teams put up more spirited efforts in the second half, but Pillars’  Auwalu Malam and Yusuf Maigoro scored in the 47th and 57th minutes respectively to extend the hosts’ lead.

Although the goals demoralised the visitors, efforts by Delta Force to equalise proved abortive.

‎Speaking after the match, coach Ibrahim Musa of Pillars said the team was now on course to gain a ticket to play on the continent next season.

He also commended his players ‎for their efforts and fighting spirit.

Kano Pillars beat visiting Go‎ Round FC 2-0

Kano Pillars ‎Football Club on Sunday defeated visiting Go Round FC of Omoku 2-0 in a Group B Match Day 19 fixture of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

In the match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Auwalu Malam scored in the 20th minute to put the visitors ahead.‎

Kano Pillars left back Chris Madaki doubled the lead in the 39th minute of the entertaining encounter.‎

The visitors made several efforts to equalise thereafter, but the brilliant efforts of the Kano Pillars defenceline denied them any chance of getting a goal.‎‎

Speaking with newsmen after the match, Kano Pillars’ head coach Ibrahim Musa commended his players for their team work and fighting spirit.‎

“We are playing well, and will not take any team for granted until we achieve our target of finishing in the top bracket,” he said.
