NGO tasks wealthy individuals on community development

Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 15, 2017 (NAN) The Modibbo Haruna Buhari Charity Organisation (BCO), Abuja, an NGO, has called on wealthy individuals to contribute to the development of their communities.

The organisation gave the task against the backdrop of the donation of transformers to communities in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State by the former clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa.

Mr Modibbo Suleiman, the National Chairman, Board of Trustee (BOT) of the organisation, said this on Monday while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

Suleiman commended Maikasuwa for donating two transformers to the benefitting communities to boost electricity supply.

He noted that the transformers were donated to Tsohon Kasuwa area and Doctors quarters in order to boost their socio-economic activities.

He called on other well individuals to emulate the donor in order to improve the standard of living of the people of the country.

Besides, Suleiman also appealed to Nigerians to always pray for the good health of President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders to enable them discharge their duties effectively.

“Praying for our leaders will bring more good things and will also bring peace, unity and national development will be achieved,” he added.

He also advised youths to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, avoid negative tendencies and to support the government.

He restated the commitment of the organisation to continue to initiate peace building projects as well as to key into projects that have direct bearing on the lives of Nigerians.

NAN recalls that on May 6, at the 5th convocation of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Muhammad Mainoma, also lauded Maikasuwa for his positive contribution to the development of the university.

“We commend the former NASS clerk for the donation of the transformers to the communities and for his contribution to the development of the state University, Keffi.

“The former National Assembly clerk also deserved commendation for empowering the youths to become self-reliant and for his contribution to humanity at large,” Mainoma said. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), April 25, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Ismaila Nuhu, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee, Keffi Local Government Cuncil, Nasarawa State, has warned residents against indiscriminate sale of land in the area.

Nuhu gave the warning on Tuesday when he visited the staff quarters of the local government council in Keffi.

He warned that those who sole government land would face the wrath of the law.

The chairman decried the reported indiscriminate sale of some portions of land belonging to the council and advised those involved to desist from the act in their own interest.

He said that the visit was aimed at assessing the facilities at the staff quarters with a view to addressing the problems.

Nuhu also called on the people to change their attitude towards government properties in the area and jealously safeguard them.

“I want to call on the people of this area and other Nigerians to jealously take full ownership of government projects and facilities in their areas by safeguarding them.

“I also advise those involved in the sale of government land in this area to desist or they will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He noted that safeguarding government projects was not only in the interest of government but also in the interest of the people.

Nuhu further advised the residents to be law-abiding, respect constituted authorities and engage in meaningful ventures.

He called on the people of the state to continue to support and pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to enable them succeed in delivering dividends of democracy.

The council boss expressed his administration’s resolve to better the standard of living of the people. (NAN)

Rainstorm destroys houses, uproots trees in Keffi

Keffi(Nasarawa State) April 24, 2017 (NAN) A heavy rainfall, accompanied by storm, destroyed many houses and uprooted many trees on Monday in Keffi, Nasarawa State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports.

A correspondent, who went round the town after the early morning downpour, observed that the roofs of many houses had been blown off, while some of the uprooted trees were thrown across the highway.

NAN reports that the development led to a heavy traffic gridlock on both sides of the road.

The storm also uprooted electric poles, with many of them thrown into people’s compounds.

Worst hit by the traffic gridlock were the Federal Medical Centre and Market Roads where youths were seen cutting branches of fallen trees, to enable passage.

Some Keffi residents, who spoke on the destruction by the rain that lasted one and a half hours, urged government and individuals to assist the victims.

Mrs. Fausat Jamaa, who resides at the G.R.A., said that she and her family had been rendered homeless.

“I am a very sad person today. The roof of my house has been blown off. Now, I do not know what to do,” she said.

Another resident, Anna Iliya, expressed fear that power supply might be affected since electricity poles had been brought down.

“Power supply has been epileptic even with the poles standing. Only God knows what will happen now that they have been brought down,” she said. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Feb. 26, 2017 (NAN) The Modibbo Haruna Buhari Charity Organisation (BCO), an NGO, has appealed to wealthy Nigerians to empower the poor with skills and money so as to tackle poverty and crime in the society.

Mr Suleiman Modibbo-Masaka, the National Chairman of Board of Trustees (BOT) of the organisation, made the appeal on Sunday while speaking with newsmen in Keffi, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

He said that poverty would be tackled in the society when wealthy individuals complement government efforts by extending hands of friendship and love to the poor by assisting them with different skills and money to start businesses of their own.

Modibbo-Masaka also appealed to Biafra agitators and Niger Delta avengers to join hands and give their maximum support to the present administration, assuring that President Muhammadu Buhari would not fail Nigerians.

“Empowering the poor would not only tackle poverty and crime but would also foster unity, peace in the society.

“God will also reward any one that assisted the poor positively,’’ the chairman said.

Besides, he advised Nigerians spreading false rumour on Buhari’s health to desist in the interest of peace, urging Nigerians to continue to pray for the good health of the president and other elected leaders.

“We are all aware that this organisation is formed with the aimed of promoting peace, unity and progress of our dear country, Nigeria, as well as to assist widows, orphans and the needy in the society as the name implies, and the organisation has been fulfilling its mandates.

“BCO is also assisting deserving and less privileged youths through the awards of scholarship and grant so as to improve the standard of education as well as to reduce the burden of school fees on their parents.

“Let me inform you that we have empowered different people with cash to start businesses of their own in which some of them today engaged in provision stores, frying akara, bread and tea, selling soft drinks and pure water, among others.

“We have provided all these intervention so as to tackle poverty in the society and to improve on the beneficiaries standard of living, hence the need for wealthy Nigerians to assist the poor for the betterment of the society,” he said.

He further urged Nigerians to continue to live in peace, be law abiding, respect constituted authorities; avoid negative tendencies and support government at all levels in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Jan. 13, 2017 (NAN) The Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State, Dr Giyan Joshua-Ndom, has confirmed that the hospital had recorded a suspected case of Lassa fever.

Joshua-Ndom told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that a patient at the hospital was suffering from a disease suspected to be Lassa fever.

He said that the case had been reported to the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for necessary action, Abuja.

“It is true that a suspected case of Lassa fever had been discovered at the centre with a male patient being its victim.

“But, I want to use this medium to appeal to patients and members of the public to remain calm as a Federal Government team had arrived the hospital to avert the spread of the virus.

“The patient with the suspected case of Lassa fever had been isolated from other patients and we are on top of the situation to curtail the spread of the disease,” he assured.

The medical director reaffirmed the commitment of the centre to sustain its policy on programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of doctors, other staff and Nigerians at large.

Joshua-Ndom therefore solicited for support to enable the centre deliver quality medical services. (NAN)
