Council boss harps on relocation to new market

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Nov. 4,2019 (NAN) Mr Abdulrahman Maigoro, the Chairman, Keffi Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, has advised traders and members of the public to appreciate government efforts at relocat traders to the new Keffi market.

Maigoro told the News Agency Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Keffi that the relocation order was designed to boost socioeconomic activity and security in the area.

He enjoined residents to disregard social media reports that he has re-ordered traders to move from the New Keffi Market to the old market.

According to him, the speculations were deaigned by mischief makers.

“I am debunking ongoing rumours and reports that I have directed marketers and traders to relocate back to old Market. The report is not only false but is baseless and created by people who want to cause confusion and did not wished this area well.

“Those spreading the rumours are doing it so as to indict me before His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, and other members of the public,

“On Sept. 3, I have directed traders in the old market to relocate to the New Keffi Market to ease traffic in town and to boost our revenue base.

“Moving to the new market will also boost commercial activities and improve the peoples’ living standard.

“As the new market has provided trading spaces for people and the traders have relocated and moving to the new market was also to justify government’s huge investment in the market

“This is because the state government has invested so much in building of markets and the government’s intention is to fight poverty, unemployment and crime,” he said.

NAN gathered that the new Keffi market had no fewer than 1,500 shops.

Meanwhile, Maigoro has advised local government pensioners in the area to go to the state Pension Board to find out reasons behind the delay in the payment of their September pension.

“I have remitted the pension money to the Pension Board as I am committed to improved workers and pensioners welfare,” he said. (NAN)

Keffi LGC embarks on road construction, school enrolment

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Oct. 15, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro, the Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area, says the council has embarked on the construction of road network to boost transportation and the socio-economic life of the people in the area.
Maigoro revealed this on Tuesday in Keffi when he received members of the state House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on oversight function.
He said that the construction of the roads linking Angwan Tofa and Karofi would not only ease the transport system but would also boost the socio-economic activities of the people.
“I want to commend you for the visit and to assure you that I will continue to do my best toward improving on the standard of living of my people.
“All revenues are to be paid through the bank in order to block leakages, improve revenue so as to bring the much needed development to my people.
“I am constructing one kilometre road with culverts and drainages along Angwan Tofa clinic to Karofi junction at the sum of over N243million.
“I also want to inform you that I have enrolled over 8,000 children into both primary and junior secondary schools considering the importance of education to societal development.
“I also sank boreholes and drains, among other infrastructure, in order to better the standard of living of the people in my area and the state at large,” he said.
Mairogo, who lauded the assembly for supporting autonomy of the local government, promised to key into people oriented projects for the benefit of all.
Earlier, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, the Chairman of the committee, said that the visit was part of the House oversight function aimed at repositioning the local government system in the state.
He said that the members of the House were happy that the issue of percentage payment has been dropped in the state.
“For four months now, we are happy that workers at the local government are receiving their salaries 100 per cent,” he said.
The chairman assured of their readiness to pass laws and resolutions that would have positive impacts on the lives of the people of the state. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Sept. 3, 2019 (NAN) Mr Abdulrahman Maigoro, the Chairman, Keffi Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, has advised traders in the old market to relocate to the New Keffi Market to ease traffic in town.
Maigoro gave the advice on Wednesday in a statement by his media aide, Mr Shuaibu Muhammed, in Keffi.
He said that the newly completed market had no fewer than 1,500 shops waiting for occupation, adding “moving to the new market will also boost commercial activities and improve the peoples’ living standard”.
“The essence of building markets is to provide trading spaces for people. This reason cannot be overemphasised, so our traders need to relocate and make use of it.
“We have had a fruitful discussion with the traders, we have come to agree that relocation is crucial,” he said.
The chairman said the local government council would do everything possible to justify the investment of the statement government in the market.
“The state government has invested so much in building of markets; government’s intention is to fight poverty, unemployment and crime.
“This is the reason I told the traders that they need to move to the new market in order to justify government’s huge investment in the market,” he said.
Maigoro further also advised traders in the area to support his administration in the realisation of set objectives. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Aug. 29, 2019 (NAN) The Keffi Local Government Council of Nasarawa State has called on residents to plant trees to tackle environmental challenges in the area.
The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro, made the appeal on Thursday in Keffi during a flood senisitisation campaign organised by the council in collaboration with the state Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA).
Maigoro also urged Nigerians to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the interest of their lives and for the overall development of the state.
According to him, this programme is to educate ourselves on how to avoid flooding which includes proper ways of refuse disposal, avoiding of erection of structures along drains and water ways which will block free passage of running water.
“First and foremost, I want to thank Gov. Abdullahi Sule for giving attention to good policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on lives of people of the state.
“The aim of this programme today is to sensitise, create awareness and educate our residents on the dangers of flooding to societal development.
“There is need for all of us to take precautionary measures against flooding in our interest and for the overall development of the country.
“It is in view of this that I want to advise my residents and other Nigerians not to build structures along water ways and we must also avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutter, market place or anywhere to prevent flooding.
“I further call on my residents to plant trees in to tackle environmental challenges in the area,’’ he said.
Maigoro restated his commitment to support any programme that would have direct bearing on the lives of Nigerians.
He urged Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations for development to thrive.
The Executive Secretary of NASEMA, Mr Zachariah Allumaga, said that the agency collaborated with the council to sensitise residents on dangers of flooding to societal development.
“If we will recall, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) in collaboration with Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have earlier issued warning of flooding particularly in 2019, hence the need for this awareness,” said.

3000 traders benefit from FG trader-moni programme in Keffi LGA – Chairman

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Aug. 27, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro, the Executive Chairman, Keffi Local Government Council, Nasarawa State, says more than 3,000 traders will benefit from the Federal Government Traders Moni programme in the area.
Maigoro made this known on Tuesday while fielding questions from the nNews Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo launched the programme in Keffi.
The council boss lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating the scheme aimed at addressing poverty through empowerment of traders across the country.
“We at the grassroots know how the programme has helped small scale traders fund their businesses, improve their lives, family members’ lives, thereby creating job opportunities.
“First and foremost, I want to commend the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating the Traders moni programme and other programmes towards tackling poverty in the country.
“This programme has impacted positively on the lives of many Nigerians especially the small scale traders and other traders.
“For example, some traders selling vegetables and other petty things need small amount of money to start or boost their businesses.
“And today, the programme has reached the door step of my people (traders); we are happy, the traders are happy and you were there, you have seen how traders are jubilating in the market.
“About 3,000 traders are benefiting from the trader moni programme in my area,” he said.
Maigoro however advised the beneficiaries to use the money for the purpose it was meant in order to improve their economic lives and that of their family members.
“I want to call on the beneficiaries to ensure proper utilisation of the funds in order to expand their businesses in their interest and for the overall development of the country,” he added.
Maigoro restated his continued commitment to initiate good policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the area and the state at large.
Besides, he called on Nigerians to pray and support Buhari and Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration to succeed.
The chairman also enjoined Nigerians to live in peace, be law abiding and respect constituted authorities in the interest of peace and national development. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Aug. 22, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro,the Executive Chairman, Keffi Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, has promised to provide better healthcare and infrastructural facilities to rural communities in the area.
This is contained in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Shuaibu Muhammad, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi on Thursday.
Maigoro said the strategy would create job opportunities and improve on the lives of the people.
He emphasised that his desire was to better the health status and standard of living of people of the area.
The chairman said that the council has approved drilling of a borehole at the Local Government Guest House and other water projects to deliver water supply to the people.
“Human beings cannot sustain themselves without water, hence the need for the project and other projects that will have direct bearing on the lives of the people of this area,” he said.
Maigoro said: “With the view of providing the much needed dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots through initiation of projects.
“We urged the good people of Keffi LGA to remain focus and be patient as good things are on the way coming for the development of their communities.
“We will provide infrastructural faculties as well as initiate skills acquisition programmes to enable our people have different skills to become self reliant.’’
According to him, the committee also approved repair of abandoned vehicles in the council to facilitate effective service delivery.
He commended the legislative arm and other workers of the council for giving him maximum support and cooperation to succeed.
The chairman however called on Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Abdullahi Sule to enable them to succeed in the tasks ahead of them.
He also urged Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations for the overall development of the country. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Feb. 23, 2019 (NAN) Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa West) on Saturday cast his vote at about 10. 09 a.m.
Adamu, who is seeking third term re-election into the Senate, cast his vote at the GRA A1 Polling Unit of Angwan Rimi ward in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The lawmaker also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the exercise so far.
“From what I have seen so far, INEC has done some homework. I have not gotten reports from other parts of my constituency, which is Nasarawa West senatorial district.
“From what I have seen, it is okay but it is too early and I will keep on waiting to get reports from other parts of the constituency,” he said.
Adamu also expressed happiness over the massive turnout of voters and their peaceful conduct.
“The turnout is impressive and okay,” he said.
Adamu, who commended the voters for their peaceful conduct, expressed optimism that the process would continue to enjoy peaceful atmosphere.
“The atmosphere is generally calm and I am happy with that,” he said.

Malnutrition: Nasarawa community volunteers, mothers demand more support from UNICEF

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Nov. 8, 2018 (NAN) Some Community Health Volunteers and benefiting mothers of malnourished children in Nasarawa State have lauded the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for tackling malnutrition among children in the state and the country at large.
The volunteers and mothers however called for more support from the fund to eradicate malnutrition challenge in the area.
Mrs Fatima Musa, a Community Volunteer in Keffi, who spoke on Thursday during an interactive session with Dr Zakari Adam, the Chief of Field Officer, UNICEF Kaduna, said that the provision of Ready to Use therapeutic Food (RUTF) to malnourished children had improved on the lives of their children.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adam led other members of the fund on an assessment tour to one of its services, Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), at Primary Healthcare Centre, Angwan Waje, Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Musa said that she decided to be community volunteer in order to contribute her quota to the development of the health sector.
“As community volunteer, our duty is to sensitise and educate women in various communities on the need for them to keep their environment clean and to maintain hygiene.
“We also educate them to visit Primary Healthcare centre in case if they found abnormality in their children.
“We told them to visit clinic for other health counselling as well as to test their children for appetite, and we also said that this service and food provided by UNICEF is free of charge.
“And through that you can see women taking their children for clinic in order to enjoy the services and we have achieved good results.
“We are thanking UNICEF for the gesture and we called for its substance,’’ said the volunteer.
She, however, appealed for more incentives to volunteers in order to boost their morale, standard of living and to take care of their local transportation and running.
Some of the benefiting mothers also commended UNICEF for the gesture.
They said that a lot of children lives had been saved in the area due to the services and food provided by UNICEF.
Responding, the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, urged the community volunteers to continue to offer their services in order to save the lives of children in the area.
Adam assured them that he would discuss with the chairman of the local government council to see how they can collaborate in order to address their challenges.
While urging them to continue to be dedicated and committed to their duties for the overall development of the health sector, he added that God would reward them abundantly.
NAN reports that Ms Chinwe Ezeife and Mr Rabiu Musa, the Nutrition Specialist and Communication Officer of UNICEF, Kaduna, respectively, supported the exercise.
NAN also learnt that the Ready to Use therapeutic Food (RUTF) provided by the UNICEF for malnourished children is been funded by Children International Foundation Fund. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Nov. 8, 2018 (NAN) Mr Ibrahim Gambo, the Director, Primary Health Care, Keffi Local Government Council, Nasarawa State, says more than 146 malnourished children have been treated and cured of malnutrition in the area.
Gambo disclosed this on Thursday in Keffi while receiving the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, Dr Zakari Adam, and some UNICEF officials during an assessment tour to Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) at PHC, Angwan Waje, Keffi, Nasarawa State.
According to him, the achievement was possible because of the support received from UNICEF toward addressing the challenges of malnourished children.
He noted that the intervention had impacted positively on their lives and called for its sustenance.
According to him, the provision of the Ready to Use therapeutic Food (RUTF) provided by the UNICEF and given to children free of charge, had impacted positively on their lives.
“We will continue to remain grateful and thank you for your gesture; we are very much appreciative of your visit as the visit will strengthen us.
“We are also committed to ensuring that the challenges among malnourished children are being addressed,” he said.
The director said that the health workers in the council are also working hard to ensure that quality healthcare service delivery is given to the people of the area.
Gambo pledged the council’s commitment to good health policies and programmes to ensure that the people have quality healthcare services.
The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, said that they were in the area to assess the progress made so far regarding the issue of malnutrition among children.
Adam said that the fund was collaborating with the government of Nigeria, especially in the area of health and education to improve the lives of children and Nigerians.
The chief said that UNICEF would continue to train and retrain health workers for quality service delivery in the country.

`We are not recruiting’, FMC Keffi warns public

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Oct. 18, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Sadiq Sule-Iko, the Chairman, Governing Board, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, Nasarawa State, has advised the general public to disregard rumours that the hospital is recruiting workers.
This is contained in a statement issued by Malam Jamil Nagogo, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the centre, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Keffi.
The statement said Sule-Iko gave the advice when he led the Medical Director of the centre, Dr Yahaya Adamu, and other management team on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, in Keffi.
It explained that the visit was informed by the strength of speculations gaining ground in and around Keffi to the effect that the management of the centre had recently recruited new employees.
According to the statement, the board chairman dismissed the rumour, assuring that the governing board will investigate and get to the root of the matter.
It said the chairman warned the general public against spreading rumours inimical to the peace and progress of the society.
“His Royal Highness, the centre is not recruiting, I want to debunk the rumours going around that the centre is recruiting,” the statement quoted Sule-Iko saying.
It stated that the board would not embark on such exercise without informing the traditional ruler and host community.
“The Board Chairman assured the Emir of the board’s readiness to consult him for fatherly advice, guidance and support at all times in order to move the centre to greater height,’’ it said.
The statement added that the chairman expressed appreciation to the Emir for his continued support and assistance to the management of the centre and called for its sustenance.
Responding, Yamusa III commended the team for the visit and prayed God to give them the wisdom and courage to pilot the affairs of the hospital creditably.
The Emir, however, confirmed to the board chairman that there was indeed tension in Keffi regarding the alleged recruitment.
The first class traditional ruler assured that as the chief custodian of his people, he would not watch tension rising in his domain without intervening and subduing it.
The emir advised the management to always follow due process in running the affairs of the centre so as to ensure sanity in the system in the interest and progress of the centre and the country at large. (NAN)
