Mai’adua LGC executes N13m projects in 2 months

Mai’adua (Katsina State), Nov. 5, 2019 (NAN) The Mai’adua Local Government Council in Katsina State says it spent N10.5 million to execute some development projects in the area in two months.
Malam Salisu Na-Allahu, the council’s transition Chairman, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Mai’adua on Tuesday.
Na-Allahu said the council procured and distributed three ambulances to Koza, Yandi and Bumbum district health clinics at the cost of N5 million.
He said the ambulances would facilitate easy movement of patients in critical condition from the rural clinics to the secondary and tertiary health facilities in Daura and Katsina without delay.
He added that the council had also procured and distributed drugs worth N2.5 million to all existing health clinics and dispensaries across the 12 wards in the area.
The chairman said drugs including analgesics, anti-malaria, blood bags and other related health consumables were supplied to the clinics, stressing “we considered the health of our people as paramount’’.
Besides, the chairman said N5 million was spent on the repair of 350 boreholes to boost water supply in the area.
“We (LGC) have replaced damaged accessories, paid for the labour and provided logistics to those supervising the project,’’ Na-Allahu said.
The council also procured and distributed teaching and learning materials worth N500,000, including exercise books, dusters, rulers, pencils and other relevant teaching aids to the 49 existing primary schools in the area, according to him.
NAN also reports that the council recently recruited 100 volunteers who would serve as vigilante members in its efforts to promote community policing. (NAN)

Enugu, Sept. 6, 2019 (NAN) Divine Era Development and Social Rights Initiatives (DEDSRI), an NGO, has trained 49 focal persons to track the implementation of constituency projects in Enugu State.

The Executive Director of the organisation, Ms Ogechukwu Enwelum, disclosed this on Friday while addressing the trainees in Enugu.

She said the beneficiaries were trained to monitor the status of constituency projects attracted to the affected areas in the last four years.

Enwelum said that the training was done in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria under a project called ‘Strengthening Citizens’ Resistance Against Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAP-C)’.

She said that the project currently implemented in six states of the federation would empower the citizenry to hold their political representatives accountable.

Enwelum said that the project tracking would cover those attracted by national and state legislators.

She said that it was sad that much money had been expended on constituency projects across the country without commensurate result.

The executive director said the trainees would monitor projects attracted to Awgu, Enugu North, Enugu East and Igboetiti Local Government Areas of the state.

Others are Oji River and Uzo Uwani Local Government Areas.

She said that the field verification would cover no fewer than 1000 projects awarded in 2016, 2017, 2018 and part of 2019.

“Part of the process will involve physical verification of the projects and interface with the beneficiaries and service providers.

“We have to find out if the various projects as quoted are actually in existence at their various locations,” she said.

Enwelum said that the status of the projects and other relevant information would be extracted from the service providers and executing government institutions, among others.

“According to statistics, about N21 billion have been expended on constituency projects in the last three years but we are yet to feel the impact.

“The NGO trains 49 persons on constituency project tracking in Enugu are to reduce poverty at the grassroots which is majorly caused by corruption.

“When these deprivations are dealt with, many Nigerians will be liberated from poverty,” Enwelum said.

One of the trainees, Mr Nelson Oko, said that they were getting disappointed by the actions of some of their political representatives whom he said had not justified their positions.

Oko said that it had become necessary to hold such people accountable for their stewardship.

World Bank disburses N477.8m to 42 Katsina communities for projects – Official

Mani (Katsina State), Aug. 9, 2019 (NAN) The World Bank has disbursed N477.8 million to 42 communities and seven groups in Katsina State for projects under its supported Community and Social Development Projects (CSDP).

Alhaji Muhammad Abdulaziz, the cting General Manager, CSDP Katsina State, disclosed this on Friday at Randawa, Mani Local Government Area of the state, during the flag-off of Community Projects and Oando Foundation Partnership.

He said that the funds were disbursed from 2017 to date to the benefiting communities in six local government areas of the state, including Bakori, Danmusa, Kaita, Kankara, Mani and Rimi.

“N150.9 million was disbursed to further improve education sector, while the remaining N326.9 million was disbursed for execution of projects on health, electricity, water supply and access roads, among others.

“Therefore, going by estimate of impacting 3,500 persons per community, it could be said that about 150,000 poorest of the poor have been directly uplifted and hundreds of thousands indirectly impacted,” he said.

He revealed that the projects were Community Driven Development.

He also said that Oando Foundation partner with the Community and Social Development Agency to enhance the living condition of the citizens and provide them with infrastructure.

Gov. Aminu Masari thanked the foundation for the support and initiative which, he said, were aimed at improving the standard of education.

Masari, represented by the state Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Idris Tune, urged the benefiting communities to maintain the projects executed in their domain.

He also urged other organisations to emulate Oando Foundation by investing particularly in education sector for its role in nation building.

The Oando Foundation Programme Management represented by Ms Tonia Uduimoh, said that the foundation works in 23 states of the federation, which included Katsina.

Uduimoh said that the foundation adopted 88 public schools for their intervention.

According to her, in Katsina state, seven schools were selected to benefit from the foundation.

She said that the foundation support governments in Nigeria to improve the quality of education.

She added that they also provide scholarship to students, school infrastructure, digital literacy centres and build the capacity of teachers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and Oando Foundation for the implementation of the projects. (NAN)

Giwa (Kaduna State), Nov. 29, 2018 (NAN) The Giwa Local Government Council of Kaduna State says it is investing more than N300 million on the execution of developmental projects across the area.
The Secretary of the council, Alhaji Usman Isma’il, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Giwa, headquarters of the local government.
He said the council would spend the amount on electrification of villages, rehabilitation of classrooms in primary schools and construction of new ones, construction of bridges to connect villages as well as construction of drains and culverts, among others.
Isma’il assured that the projects, which were ongoing, would be completed by December ending to pave way for the take-off of new ones.
“The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abubakar Lawal, has cleared many roads in the bush and embarked on building bridges to link villages that never dream of testing the dividends of democracy.
“These people are not only happy but they are overjoyed by the projects because they were hungry for the projects for more than 20 years.
“Education is one of the topmost priorities of the council, when we came onboard, the chairman realised that our children didn’t have enough classrooms and he immediately embarked on rehabilitation of 20 and construction of 10 new classrooms,” he said.
Isma’il added that in order to give other students a sense of belonging, the council had initiated and disbursed bursary allowances to Giwa indigenes studying in various tertiary institutions across the country.
The secretary also lauded Gov. Nasiru el-Rufa’i for giving local government councils the autonomy to execute different developmental projects that would satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of the common people especially rural dwellers.
“The Kaduna State Government is doing a lot to ensure that people live in peace with one another especially here in Giwa local government; we highly appreciate his support and encouragement.
“The governor allows the current council chairmen across the state to execute different developmental projects of choice without any restriction,” he said.
He said the council had already mapped out strategy to build an orphanage home to cater for orphans and the less privileged in the society.
The scribe explained that the proposed orphanage would give hope to the hopeless, to accommodate the orphans and less privileged so that they could also feel as citizens.
On crises that engulfed the area recently, Ismail said the chairman was doing his best to reconcile the two factions.
“The issue of security is not only restricted to Nigeria, it is now a global phenomenon, our council was recently affected where herdsmen/farmers clash led to lose of lives.
“The chairman himself led the funeral of about seven people, we thank Almighty God that the chairman in collaboration with the state government were able to restore peace.
“The chairman immediately alerted the security including the military and the police who effectively brought the situation under control.
“Apart from that, the chairman separately invited the two factions for possible dialogue, this actually yielded positive results and facilitated subsequent meetings on four different occasions,” he said.
According to him, the result of the dialogue had reduced the hatred between the rivals, thereby resulting in prevailing peace in the area.
The secretary appealed for maximum support and cooperation from all and sundry to enable the council effectively and holistically deliver more dividends of democracy.
He also called on residents to massively vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming presidential, gubernatorial and legislative elections to take Nigeria to greater level. (NAN)

Abuja, June 14, 2018 (NAN) The Federal Government has promised to execute projects across the country to entrench justice and equity.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, made the pledge in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Akpandem James, on Thursday in Kaduna.
He said the strategy would demonstrate the sincerity of purpose of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
Udoma gave the assurance while inaugurating the soil erosion and flood control project in Kwoi town, Ham District of Jaba Local Government Area in southern Kaduna State.
The minister said that at this critical moment of nation building and economic recovery, proper execution of people-oriented projects, would provide a window of opportunity for economic growth of communities.
Udoma said execution of people- oriented projects would also unlock the potentials which were in tandem with the Buhari administration’s policy thrust, especially on agriculture and food security.
According to him, the Kwoi erosion and flood control project is one of the ecological intervention projects approved by Buhari in August, 2016.
He said that the contract for execution of the project was awarded by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Jan. 25, 2017.
“The project is expected to check flooding and erosion menace in the communities that had for so many years been experiencing untold hardship and neglect.
“It is also expected to enhance the wellbeing of the people as well as reduce dangers to lives and property,” the minister said.
Udoma said the negative impact of the twin ecological problems of erosion and flooding on the socio-economic lives of the people in any community could not be underrated.
The minister said the intervention of the federal government had brought a huge relief to the distressed people of the communities.
He said government’s intervention on the project was very timely given the previous devastating experiences in the area.
“The people are filled with joy that the federal government came to their rescue and no doubt, the reclaimed land could be put to use for other developmental purposes,’’ the minister said.
The approval of project by the President, he said, was a testimony to the present administration’s promise that no part of the country would suffer any neglect.
The Kpop Ham, Paramount Ruler of Ham Community, Dr Danladi Maude, thanked the federal government for embarking on the project.
Maude said the people were full of praises for Buhari “for putting a smile on the faces of Ham people”.
Gov. Nasir El’Rufai of Kaduna State, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Amina Sijuade, also appreciated the federal government for helping out on the project.
El’Rufai pledged cooperation with the federal government on other areas of intervention in the state.
Ambassador Lolo, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Federal service, who was the arrowhead of the intervention, was very grateful to the President and the federal government for the timely intervention.
Lolo said the community was persistently being harassed by erosion and was on the verge of being swept away by flood. (NAN)

Karu (Nasarawa State), April 15, 2018 (NAN) Dr Joshua Ndom-Giyan, the out-gone Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, Nasarawa State, says he executed and inaugurated 15 “huge capital projects’’ at the facility to improve effective and quality healthcare delivery to Nigerians.
Ndom-Giyan made this known during a thanks giving service at the Church of Christ in Nation (COCIN), Nyanya, Nsarawa State, on Sunday after eight years of meritorious service.
The medical consultant explained that the thanks giving service was organised to appreciate God for guiding and protecting him, his family and management staff during his tenure.
Ndom Giyan, who during his testimonies said that despite protests, overflow of petitions, assassination attempt, threat to his life and attacks on his supporters, God saved them, hence the need for the thanks giving.
The outgone medical director said that the projects executed by his administration at the centre would remain indelible in the annals of healthcare delivery in Nigeria, adding that he left a good legacy in which others would emulate.
“My helpers and some of my management staff members were not spared in the torment. My personal assistant was attacked by a group of gunmen with machine guns but God’s divine mercy, he escaped the attack. Sadly, however, a policeman was killed in the process.
“We, the Giyans, have experienced many divine intervention that we can’t stop talking about, for that would amount to taking God’s love, favour, grace and mercy for granted.
“Below are therefore only summaries of some God’s intervention in our lives during those eventful eight years of divine favour. Through all these we have learnt to trust in and depend on Jesus all the more, Indeed Psalm 23 and 91 have come alive in our lives.
“Twist of events culminating in my appointment as medical director, protesters from town carried placards on two occasions and posted protest bills on several occasions stating several reasons why I should not be the MD FMC, Keffi; overflow of petitions.
“Assassination attempts – It dawned on me that they meant business when assassins were sent to my residence, the policeman on duty was shot but God saved his life. God miraculously saved me and my family despite doors being opened.
“Threats to life- Threats through calls and text messages continued to pour in necessitating our relocation from our personal house to a rented apartment in a new location. Fire inferno in our residence and there is attack on our health, among others,’’ he said.
Ndom-Giyan thanked God for his life and for a peaceful hand-over, adding that there is unprecedented transformation at the centre amidst distraction which had direct bearing on the lives of Nigerians.
He also thanked the Federal Government for appointing him twice as the medical director of the centre, reiterating that Nigeria is still a country of opportunities even for the minorities and down-trodden.
Earlier, Rev. Chrysantus Bala of COCIN Church, Garki, Abuja, during his sermon urged Christians and other Nigerians to always thank God no matter their situation.
Bala, who took his reading from Psalm 100 with the theme “Enter His gates with thanks giving”, admonished Nigerians to continue to give thanks, praise and depend on God for more blessings and favour.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by health experts, traditional rulers and religious leaders, among others.
NAN recalls that some of the capital projects initiated and inaugurated under the Ndom-Giyan tenure between April 2010 and March 2018 at the centre included building of the Accident and Emergency Unit, Family Medicine Complex, Pharmacy Complex, Intensive Care Unit, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Complex and Sickle Cell Disease Zonal Centre.
He also introduced the Central Information Technology and Telemedicine, NHIS Unit and C-T Scan services at the centre.
Electronic Medical Records (EMR), 200 KVA solar power; new Administrative Complex, Isolation Unit and Electronic Personnel Record, among others, were also executed by him. (NAN)

Lagos, Jan. 16, 2018 (NAN) The Debt Management Office (DMO) says the release of N1.2 trillion for capital projects by the Federal Government in six months is a positive development in the country.

The capital projects are contained in the 2017 Appropriation Act.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the 2017 budget was only finalised in July 2017, when its implementation started.

The DMO said in a statement on Tuesday evening that the disbursement of the N1.2 trillion, over a short period of six months to capital, “is a strong and positive development in Nigeria’’.

“The release of such a large amount for capital projects is a strong demonstration of the commitment of the present administration to prioritise improvement in infrastructure in order to stimulate economic growth and development.

“Since the 2017 Budget is still being implemented, more releases to capital expenses are expected,’’ the statement read in part.

The DMO also stated that in line with its statutory mandate of funding federal budgets, it raised a total of N1.254 trillion from the Domestic Market through the issuance of Federal Government of Nigeria Bonds, Nigerian Treasury Bills, as well as Sukuk and Green Bonds.

“This amount was consistent with the provision for New Borrowing in the 2017 Appropriation Act.

“The DMO also raised USD2.8 billion in the International Capital Market through a USD300 million Diaspora Bond in June 2017 and a USD2.5 billion Eurobond in November 2017.

“Altogether, these represent about 80 per cent of the N1.0675 trillion (about USD3.5 billion), provided as New External Borrowing in the 2017 Appropriation Act.

“The outstanding amount of USD700 million in External Borrowing is expected from multilateral sources,’’ the DMO said. (NAN)

Maiadua (Katsina State), Jan. 5, 2018 (NAN) The Maiadua Local Government Council of Katsina State has commended the State Government for executing some development projects in the area.
Alhaji Sade Zango, the acting Chairman of the council, made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiadua on Friday.
He said the state government had constructed the 74-km Koza-Jirdede Road and township roads within Maiadua town, the local government headquarters.
He expressed hope that the Koza-Jirdede road would open up the area for increased economic activities and transportation of agricultural produce to urban centres.
Zango also lauded the efforts of the state government on steady provision of potable drinking water to the people of the area.
“We are proud to say that government has drilled boreholes across our 11 electoral wards to boost water supply to residents,’’ he added.
‘‘We are also grateful to the government for employing hundreds of our youths in the health and education sectors as teachers and medical personnel,’’ he said.
The acting chairman also commended security agencies for being very vigilant in promoting security in the area.
He appreciated the military, police and civil defence for their surveillance with a view to securing the area.
Zango however called on the people of the area to continue to support government programmes for the socio-economic development of the area.
NAN reports that the local government was recently certified as Open Defecation Free by state and the national bodies on sanitation and hygiene.
The National Taskforce Group on Sanitation and its Katsina State counterpart had certified 286 communities out of 298 in Mai’adua as Open Defecation Free (ODF). (NAN)

Abuja, Sept. 28, 2017 (NAN) Dr Habiba Lawal, Acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Thursday called for transparency in the execution of constituency projects to ensure widespread development in the country.
Lawal, represented by Mr William Alo, the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), made the call at the 3rd Stakeholders Forum on Implementation of Zonal Intervention and Constituency Projects in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the stakeholders at the event included representatives from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
She said that the forum was organised to allow stakeholders brainstorm on mechanism that would fast track the implementation of constituency projects.
Lawal added that stakeholders would fertilise ideas on effective procedure for monitoring, evaluation and verification for payment purposes of the projects to forestall poor or non-implementation of these projects.
“Constituency projects is a noble one conceived to assist members of the National Assembly as elected representatives of the people to facilitate development of their constituencies.
“Thus, if they are executed with all amount of sincerity by the stakeholders, they would impact positively on the lives of the citizenry.
“This task may not be easy but we shall not leave any stone unturned to ensure that this dream is realised,” she said.
According to her, the MDAs are responsible for the actual implementation of these projects while the OSGF monitors, evaluate, verify implementation and authorise payments at various stages of execution.
She added that the contractors handling constituency projects would only be paid upon authorisation by the OSGF.
However, the acting SGF noted that constituency projects previously had not being properly monitored, adding that there will be a turn around because these are tax payers money that must be accounted for.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, OSGF, Mr William Alo, said that his office was currently charged to oversee the implementation of zonal/constituency projects.
Alo, who was represented by Mrs Annette Asugha, the Director, Policy Implementation and Monitoring Decisions, OSGF, added that a committee has been set up to ensure adequate monitoring.
“A strong committee has been set up and has the duty to visit all project sites wherever it is located.
“Visiting the sites is a daily affair and they monitor the projects closely from conception to completion.
“When this is fine the value for money for these projects must be achieved,” he said.
He called for collaboration between the MDAs and National Assembly to effectively deliver the benefits of the projects to the citizenry. (NAN)

Kokona (Nasarawa State), Aug. 22, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education has tasked the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to ensure full execution of school projects.
The Chairman, Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Mr Daniel Ogazi, gave the task while inspecting selected school projects in Kokona Local Government Area of the state.
Ogazi (APC-Kokona East) enjoined the board to adopt an effective supervision of all the ongoing school projects to ensure quality work by contractors.
He warned that the legislature would reject any sub-standard building and roofing materials used by any contractor, advising that they should ensure that work was done according to specification.
The lawmaker faulted the roofing design of three blocks of classrooms at Bokoko Local Education Authority (LEA), promising to draw attention of the consultant of the project for redress.
He also advised contractors handling different projects in the state to ensure quick delivery of quality work.
“The committee will continue to embark on its oversight functions to ensure quality work by contractors to justify government’s huge investment in the education sector.
“I want to use this medium to advise the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and contractors handling school projects against shoddy work and other sharp practices.
“We are tasking the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on effective supervision of all ongoing schools projects to ensure that quality work is done by contractors.
“We are not going to fold our hands and watch contractors or anybody to sabotage the efforts of government in improving the standard of education.
“We will reject any sub-standard job in the interest of the education sector and the overall development of the state,’’ he said.
He reiterated the commitment of the legislators to the enactment of people oriented laws that would fast track the development of the state.
The committee chairman called on the people of the area to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
