Zango (Katsina State), June 14, 2017 (NAN) Rep. Nasiru Zango (APC-Katsina) has facilitated the construction of three additional clinics to boost healthcare services in his constituency.

Alhaji Junaidu Buhari, the Senior Legislative Aid to the lawmaker, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zango, Katsina State, on Wednesday.

He said the projects were executed as constituency intervention projects in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

He said the clinics were located in Rogogo, Dantagwarma and Walawa villages of Zango/Baure Federal Constituency.

The aide said: “We will donate drugs and other medical equipment for proper functioning of the clinics.’’

Buhari also disclosed that the legislator constructed 30 boreholes in the constituency to provide water supply.

According to him, the water project was executed in collaboration with the Boarder Community Development Agency and the Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority.

He said the boreholes were drilled at the boarder communities while 10 existing boreholes were repaired in Baure and Zango towns.

Besides, he said that was facilitating the construction of N25 million veterinary clinic at Hui district Zango has in collaboration with the boarder community development agency.

Similarly, Buhari said the lawmaker has distributed foodstuff worth N7 million across the 22 electoral wards in Zango and Baure local government areas.

He said another N3 million was spent in organising remedial and tutorial classes for indigent students preparing for public examinations like WAEC and NECO.

Buhari said the programme was being run in collaboration with the existing indigent students associations in the area, stressing over 1,000 students benefited from the gesture in the last two years.

The aide promised that the lawmaker would provide more dividends of democracy to the electorate in the area. (NAN)

Akwanga (Nasarawa State), May 4, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has pledged to work with the executive arm to ensure even distribution of development projects at the grassroots.

Mr Mohammad Odege-Okpoku, Chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport, made the promise while inspecting projects in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

Odege-Okpoku, who led members of the committee on the exercise, lauded Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for releasing funds for the construction of culverts and bridges across local government and development area councils in the state.

“It will go a long way to alleviating the hardship faced by rural dwellers during the raining season,” the chairman said.

He said the construction and reconstruction of roads across the state had been given priority by the administration, considering the plight of some communities during the rainy season.

“One thing our people found difficult and that also caused hardship in the rural communities is the issue of culverts and bridges during the peak of the rainy season.

“The governor has really tried in this direction, by providing relief to the people at the grassroots, even as we appeal to him to do more to give to the people at the grassroots a sense of belonging,” he said.

The lawmaker also commended the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Council, Mr Kwanta Yakubu, for supervising the construction work which has resulted in the completion of the projects within specification.

The committee also inspected projects in Akwanga-West, Akun and Agwada Development Areas.

However, he urged the people of the state to accord the Al-Makura-led administration the desired support and co-operation in its quest to better their lot. (NAN)

NASCO CEO gets students’ award for outstanding corporate responsibility

Jos, April 20, 2017(NAN) Dr. Attia Nasredin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Jos-based NASCO Group of Companies, on Thursday received an award of honour from the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS).

NANS’ Director of Media and Publicty, Mr Michael Oyewole, who presented the award in Jos, said that it was in recognition of the company’s “outstanding performance in the area of corporate social responsibility to host communities”.

Oyewole said that the company had contributed immensely to the lives of the people, especially in the areas of education and healthcare.

He said that the company had given out 5000 treated mosquito nets to residents of Jos South, Riyom and Barkin -Ladi Local Government areas.

“The company has also constructed various pedestrian bridges within Jos-Bukuru metropolis to curtail the incidence of accidents encountered by pedestrians while crossing the roads,” he added.

Oyewole revealed that the company had also constructed many classroom blocks in St. John Vianey Seminary in Barkin-ladi, and also constructed a student’s hall at the Jos campus of the Plateau State Polytechnic.

He further disclosed that the company had empowered youths in Anglo-Jos, to encourage them to be self-reliant.

Nasreddin, in a response, thanked the students for recognising and appreciating the company’s contribution to the host communities, and advised them to shun all forms of corruption and work toward a better Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to patronise Made-in-Nigeria goods so as to encourage local industries and shore up internally generated revenue. (NAN)

Port Harcourt, March 28, 2017 (NAN) The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it will soon publish more projects to accommodate communities which did not get projects in its earlier advertised list.

Mr Chijioke Amu-Nnadi gave the assurance in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

He said the projects would be sited in states such as Cross River, Delta, Ondo and other “affected” states and called for calm.

“NDDC published a list 375 infrastructural projects in three national newspapers as part of ongoing process to implement the 2016 NDDC budget, which the present Governing Board and Management inherited.

“Since that publication, it has come to our attention that a few ethnic nationalities have raised concern about the list of projects advertised.

“While we understand and appreciate these concerns; the commission wishes to state categorically that there is no attempt to exclude any ethnic group, area or community from its development initiatives.

“For avoidance of doubt, the commission is in the process of advertising additional projects, which contains projects in these areas, particularly in Cross River, Delta, Ondo and other affected states.

“This publication will be made soon as all necessary checks are concluded to avoid incidences of project duplication with other agencies,” he said.

Amu-Nnadi said it was policy of the new governing board to address all development needs of communities with focus to equitably distribution of projects as enshrined in the NDDC Act of 2000.

He said that the commission was determined and prepared to partner and work with all groups to facilitate and accelerate sustainable development of the region.

The spokesman urged stakeholders to engage the commission constructively while it addresses their grievances and concerns. (NAN)

Abuja, March 19, 2017 (NAN) The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello, has assured that the current administration would complete all abandoned projects in the territory so as to stimulate desired economic activities.

Bello said this when he and the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr Babatope Ajakaiye, paid an unscheduled visit to the Malaysian Gardens Estate on Sunday in Abuja.

According to him, the administration is already working towards resolving problems stalling the major projects in and around the FCT.

“We will do our best to ensure that all abandoned projects in the Federal Capital Territory, be they private sector or government driven, they must be completed.

“Each time a project is started and not completed, no matter how much money that is spent, it adds no value to the city.

“And for us in the city, we want projects to be completed for maximum benefits,’’ he said.

He said that the completion of abandoned projects would engender economic activities in the city so that the purpose for which such huge expanse of land was allocated must have been achieved.

“We are a government that want to solve problems and I assure you these problems would definitely be solved,” the minister declared.

The Chairman/Board of Directors of Global Formwork Limited (Malaysia Gardens), Mr George Nwachukwu, conducted the minister and the permanent secretary round the project site.

Nwachukwu said he was in Malaysia for 19 years before former president Olusegun Obasanjo invited him to come and invest in Nigeria.

He said the company has enough materials on ground to complete 1,500 houses in three months at the Malaysia Gardens, if the FCTA gives the approval. (NAN)

Abuja, Feb. 7, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Government says it will ensure  the completion of  on-going power  projects designed to improve  electricity generation, transmission and distribution in the country in no distant time.

The Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, announced the  government’s position while inaugurating the new National Commissioners for the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)  in Abuja on Tuesday.

Following  the  exit  of the Chairman and former commissioners of NERC in December 2015, the  acting Chairman of the commission had carried on with the activities of the agency without  national commissioners as required  by law.

The Chairman-designate of NERC, Prof. Akintunde Akinwande, had  rejected his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, as he did not  present himself  for screening at the Senate.

The Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005 states that NERC shall have seven full time commissioners appointed by the President and  subject  to  confirmation  by  the  Senate.

To this end,  Fashola said even though government was committed to completing the projects, the bulk of activities in the power sector would hence forth be private sector dominated.

“The first thing to emphasise is that the power sector has been privatised.

“This process occurred and was concluded in November 2013 and has resulted in the vesting of majority of power generation and power distribution in the hands of private owners.

“So for the avoidance of doubt, power is now in private hands, and government is now largely a policy maker and regulator.“

He said  that  the  policy  aspect  in the sector was domiciled with the ministry, while the NERC was saddled with the responsibility of regulating the value chain operators.

“Regulation is the work of NERC, acting through the commissioners we inaugurated today.

“So for all those seeking licence to generate power, to build coal and solar plants, and all other similar proposals, your letters should go to NERC, not to the ministry although you can copy us for information.“

The minster also urged people with issues on metering  and other challenges like estimated billing, customer service issues to direct  their complaints to NERC.

Fashola said that the selection of the new commissioners was in line with  the extant laws governing the sector.

He said that their appointment was meant to provide stability in government’s regulatory action and institution building to the sector.

Fashola urged the new commissioners to be  business oriented  in their regulation, while also showcasing  firmness and fairness in their regulatory activities .

“Remember that regulations are rules and rules are made for us; we are not made for the rules.

“ Regulate with the understanding that the industry is young, in transition and needs support.

The six national commissioners inaugurated included the Vice-Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Sanusi Garba,  representing North West; Nathan Rogers Shatti, North East.

Others awere Dr. Moses Arigu, North Central; Dafe Akpedeye, South-South; Prof. Frank Okafor, South-East, and Dr. Musilliu Oseni, South West. (NAN)
