Rangers have qualified medical personnel and relevant facilities, club official says

Enugu, March 15, 2020 (NAN) Dr Wen Udeoji, Rangers International Football Club’s medical doctor, on Saturday in Enugu said the club has qualified and accessible medical personnel and facilities in and outside match venues.

Udeoji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the club believed in being proactive in handling players’ and medical coverage. 

”For these reasons, Rangers and the Enugu State Government have provided medical facilities that are functional and effective. 

“Starting from personnel, the club have a full compliment of medical staff capable of handling life-threatening and basic muscular injuries. 

”Rangers have qualified medical team, including orthopeadic doctor, a nurse, physiotherapist and masseur and all with many years of working experience,” he said.  

The official said the club’s medical personnel has interest in the game as they were always punctual and available at training, match venues and even during the club’s camping period. 

”Our players are always assessed before the beginning of each season and halfway during the season,” Udeoji said.  

In terms of equipment, the doctor said the club also has functional resuscitation equipment.

”Our emergency medications are readily available at the snap of the finger and regularly checked and updated. 

“We have a mobile functional oxygen cylinder Automatic Electro Defabricator (AED) and other support facilities. 

‘“The club also has functional and fully-equipped gym for rehabilitation and fitness building of player and other facilities, courtesy of Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ” Udeoji said. 

Speaking also, a former Rangers International player, Harrison Okagbue, said during their days medical facilities must be in place for each match. 

”Match Commissioners were mandated by the league organisers to check on medical facilities and personnel.

“They also ask about security personnel to know if it was adequate for the match,” he said. 

Okagbue said the responsibility of providing facilities, medical personnel and security were mainly bestowed on the State Football Association.

“The State FA must have their medical facilities, personnel and add to the club’s own facilities and personnel.  

“Match Commissioners inquire about doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and others. But I do not know if these things are being asked of these days, ” the former player said. 

He said these requirements were listed in match forms in which the match commissioners would have to attest to. 

Okagbue said Rangers have a qualified General Manager in the person of Davidson Owumi who knew the game down to its rudiments. 

“He knows what it takes to have complete medical facilities and personnel. But if the club does not have them, it will be a big surprise to me as an ex-player of the club.’’ 

Okagbue then called on the league organisers to enforce the laws on the provision of medical requirements, so as to ensure the safety of players before, during and after matches.(NAN)

2019/2020 NPFL season: Rangers International FC pick 4 feeder team players for senior team

Enugu, Oct. 10, 2019 (NAN) Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Rangers International Football Club of Enugu have promoted four players from their feeder team into the senior team, an official said on Thursday.

The club’s Media Officer, Norbert Okolie, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the move was part of efforts to fortify the team for the 2019/2020 NPFL season.

“The integration of the budding talents from the feeder team into the main team was to fortify the senior team for the 2019/2020 NPFL season. That is what we do in order to encourage young talents.

“The promoted players are Alex Nnaji, Anthony Ogba, Chinedu Nwangwu and Ifebuche Nweke, and they are all doing well with the big boys in training,’’ he said.

Commenting on the friendly match between Rangers International and Heartland FC of Owerri, Okolie hailed the resilience and technical depth of the Flying Antelopes, saying these earned them the victory.

NAN reports that Rangers International won the match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu 1-0, with 75th minute substitute Christian Madu scoring the goal in the 90th minute.

“The game was a good test for both teams as they make final preparations for the forthcoming season,’’ the club spokesman said.(NAN)

CAF Confederation Cup: Rangers draw with Sfaxien in Tunisia

Abuja, Feb. 14, 2019 (NAN) Rangers International Football Club of Enugu maintained their steady run in the CAF Confederation Cup Group B with a 1-1 draw against hosts CS Sfaxien of Tunisia on Match Day 2.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the match played at the Stade Taïeb Mhir in Sfax the hosts, parading Nigeria’s Kingsley Sokari, broke the deadlock after sustained pressure.

Alaa Marzouki scored with a superb header in the 71st minute to underline their dominance.

But the home crowd were soon silenced when Pape Sane smashed home a rebound off Bobby Clement’s goalbound header to draw level for Rangers barely two minutes later.

In stoppage time, the crossbar came to the rescue of Rangers after a fumble by the otherwise impressive Ghanaian goalkeeper Nana Bonsu.

As much as the Tunisian side tried, they could not get the winner, even with six minutes added after regulation time.

Rangers, with four points and a +2 goals difference, still lead Group B.

They are followed by CS Sfaxien who have the same number of points, but are with a +1 goal advantage.

Etoile du Sahel, who were held to a goalless draw by Salitas FC in Burkina Faso, are third on a point.

The Burkinabes are also on a point, albeit on an inferior goals difference, and they are occupying the bottom of the log.

NAN reports that Rangers are due to return to Tunisia to face Etoile du Sahel on Feb. 24.(NAN)

CAF Confederation Cup: Rangers International beat hosts Bantu FC of Lesotho

Abuja, Jan. 13, 2019 (NAN) Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Sunday in Maseru defeated hosts Bantu FC of Lesotho 2-1 in a Second Round of 16 fixture in the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup.

In the first leg game played at Leshoboro Seeiso Sports Complex in Mafeteng, Rangers took the lead in the 20th minute through Bright Silas.

The reigning Aiteo Cup champions scored their second goal through Aguda Godwin in the 87th minute.

The home side however pulled one back in the 90th minute.

Rangers will have a chance to seal qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage when they host Bantu FC in the second leg game.

The match will be played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Saturday, and the 2-1 advantage means they already have a foot in the group stage draw.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side had beaten Defence Force FC of Ethiopia and USM bel Abbes of Algeria in previous qualification rounds.

Rangers International FC unveils Ogunbote as Technical Adviser

Enugu, Nov. 1, 2017 (NAN) Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Wednesday unveiled Gbenga Ogunbote as its new Technical Adviser, ahead of the 2017/2018 Nigerian football season.

Ogunbote, who was with Enyimba International FC of Aba in the 2016/2017 season, has now taken over from Sylvanus Okpala.

Okpala had joined the Enugu-based side some matches before the season ended, replacing Chukwuma Agbo who stood in after the departure of Imama Amapakabo earlier in the season.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, performed the unveiling ceremony at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House.

Ogunbote, who has coached at clubs like 3SC, the defunct Sharks and Sunshine Stars before now, told newsmen after the ceremony that he was excited at the prospects of working with Rangers.

“Rangers is a household name in Nigerian football and it is a privilege to be given the opportunity to handle the team in the coming season.

“When the offer came, I thought it was a special grace for me,” he said.

Ogunbote said his immediate task was to look at the problems which led the team to an unimpressive performance in the last season.

“I have a name to protect and we will work assiduously to achieve it. I was not given a target, but I have a target for myself,” he said.

The coach said he left Enyimba International due to his desire for a new challenge.

“My challenge in Enyimba was to take the team to winning a ticket to play on the continent, which we achieved. But I need a new challenge,” Ogunbote said.

Also speaking, the Team Manager of Rangers Management Corporation, Davidson Owumi, said the new challenge was to build a strong professional clubside.

“Everybody will be part of the move to rebrand Rangers because we need to develop a brand for ourselves,” Owumi said.

NAN reports that Ogunbote’s unveiling has come seven days after the Administrative Panel of Inquiry into the Poor Performance of Rangers in the last season submitted its report to the governor.

The panel headed by Prof. Gab Agu had recommended an immediate engagement of a new technical crew for the team.(NAN)
