Rangers have qualified medical personnel and relevant facilities, club official says

Enugu, March 15, 2020 (NAN) Dr Wen Udeoji, Rangers International Football Club’s medical doctor, on Saturday in Enugu said the club has qualified and accessible medical personnel and facilities in and outside match venues.

Udeoji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the club believed in being proactive in handling players’ and medical coverage. 

”For these reasons, Rangers and the Enugu State Government have provided medical facilities that are functional and effective. 

“Starting from personnel, the club have a full compliment of medical staff capable of handling life-threatening and basic muscular injuries. 

”Rangers have qualified medical team, including orthopeadic doctor, a nurse, physiotherapist and masseur and all with many years of working experience,” he said.  

The official said the club’s medical personnel has interest in the game as they were always punctual and available at training, match venues and even during the club’s camping period. 

”Our players are always assessed before the beginning of each season and halfway during the season,” Udeoji said.  

In terms of equipment, the doctor said the club also has functional resuscitation equipment.

”Our emergency medications are readily available at the snap of the finger and regularly checked and updated. 

“We have a mobile functional oxygen cylinder Automatic Electro Defabricator (AED) and other support facilities. 

‘“The club also has functional and fully-equipped gym for rehabilitation and fitness building of player and other facilities, courtesy of Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ” Udeoji said. 

Speaking also, a former Rangers International player, Harrison Okagbue, said during their days medical facilities must be in place for each match. 

”Match Commissioners were mandated by the league organisers to check on medical facilities and personnel.

“They also ask about security personnel to know if it was adequate for the match,” he said. 

Okagbue said the responsibility of providing facilities, medical personnel and security were mainly bestowed on the State Football Association.

“The State FA must have their medical facilities, personnel and add to the club’s own facilities and personnel.  

“Match Commissioners inquire about doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and others. But I do not know if these things are being asked of these days, ” the former player said. 

He said these requirements were listed in match forms in which the match commissioners would have to attest to. 

Okagbue said Rangers have a qualified General Manager in the person of Davidson Owumi who knew the game down to its rudiments. 

“He knows what it takes to have complete medical facilities and personnel. But if the club does not have them, it will be a big surprise to me as an ex-player of the club.’’ 

Okagbue then called on the league organisers to enforce the laws on the provision of medical requirements, so as to ensure the safety of players before, during and after matches.(NAN)
