Teacher in court over alleged visa fraud

Ikeja, March 5, 2020 (NAN) A 44-year-old teacher, Oladotun Ayedun, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N620,000 from two people on the pretext of procuring Canadian and Spanish Visas for them.

The defendant, who resides at 10, Adepegba St., Abule Egba, Lagos, is being tried for obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on July 30, 2017 at Adepegba St., Abule Egba, Lagos.

Akeem alleged that the defendant collected N500,000 from Mr Ethohason Williams on the pretext of procuring a Canadian Visa for him.

He also alleged that the defendant also obtained N120,000 from Mr Raji Akinola on the pretext that he would procure a Spanish Visa for him.

The prosecutor said that the defendant did not procure the visas for the complainants and all efforts by the complainants to get their money refunded proved abortive.

The prosecutor said the case was reported to the Police and the defendant was arrested.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 313 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, admitted the defendant to N500,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until March 31, for mention. (NAN)
