Trader remanded for alleged defilement of lover’s daughter

Ikeja, May 28, 2019 (NAN) For allegedly defiling his lover’s 13-year-old daughter, a 32-year-old trader, Daisi Awodeji, was on Tuesday remanded at Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who did not take the plea of the defendant, said he should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until July 1.

Awodeji, who resides at Agege, Lagos, is being tried for defilement.

The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court the defendant committed the offence on May 12 at Obawole, Lagos.

According to him, the defendant, who is having affairs with the girl’s mother, sneaked into the house and had canal knowledge of her.

“The defendant came to visit his lover, but did not meet her at home.

“He moved to where the teenager was sleeping and started touching her indiscriminately.

“The girl resisted, but he held her neck and threatened to strangle her if she refused to comply.

“He forcefully had sexual intercourse with her and warned her not to tell anybody what he did to her, that if she tells her mother, he will kill her.

“The mother of the girl (defendant’s lover)met her daughter crying outside, and when she questioned her, the girl told her what the defendant did to her.

“The case was reported and the defendant was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

Ayorinde said that medical report showed that the girl was defiled.

He said the offence violated Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for defilement(NAN)
