Unemployed man, 23, docked over alleged burglary, stealing

Lagos, March 13, 2018 (NAN) A 23- year –old unemployed man, Joseph Orizu, who allegedly burgled two houses and stole laptops and phones, valued at N310,000 was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides at 12, Aduke Longoos St., Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a four-count charge of burglary, conspiracy, damage and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on March 4 at Alagbado area of Lagos.

Akeem said that the accused burgled the residences of one Mr Raji Jubril and Mr Biola Afolabi and carted away laptops and mobile phones.

“The accused, and others now at large, gained access to the rooms of the houses of the complainants through the burglary proofs on the windows.

“The accused stole three laptops and two mobile phones, all valued at N310, 000,’’ Akeem said.

The prosecutor said that the accused and his accomplices succeeded in stealing the items and were about escaping, when they were caught.

“The accused was apprehended by members of the vigilance group but his accomplices escaped with the stolen items,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 306, 339 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, entered a “not guilty’’ plea.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr T. O Shomade, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Shomade adjourned the case until April 9, for mention. (NAN)
