Unemployed man charged with stealing generator set worth N75, 000

Ikeja, June 19, 2018 (NAN) A 30-year-old unemployed man, Mustapha Isiaku, who allegedly stole a generator set valued at N75,000, was  charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Tuesday.

Isiaka, whose address was not revealed in court, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offences with one other person, who is still at large on June 10 at 106, Iju Road, Ifako in Lagos State.

Ogu said the accused scaled a part of the perimeter fence of the complainant, Mr Julius Idowu, and stole a generator set.

“One of the complainant’s neighbours sighted them and raised an alarm; passers-by apprehended the accused, while his accomplice escaped, ” he said.

Ogu said the accused was handed over to the police for questioning.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The chief magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun, in his ruling granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until July 4 for mention. (NAN)
