Ikorodu (Lagos State), June 22, 2018(NAN) A 28-year-old unemployed man, Tolulope Omolaja, who escaped police custody has been rearrested and brought before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Omolaja, residing at No. 32, Itunpate St., Ikorodu, was arrested over an alleged theft of mobile phone worth N40, 000 from one Yusuf Aro, but he escaped custody during investigation.

He is facing a three-count charge of stealing, escape from lawful custody and belonging to an unlawful society.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Mary Ajiteru, said the accused was arrested on June 19 for theft of a mobile phone, escape from police custody and belonging to an unlawful society.

“The accused robbed the complainant of his mobile phone and was arrested by the police, but he later injured the investigative police officer and escaped through the back fence of the police station.

“He was accused of belonging to unlawful society, following the tattoos on his body and was arrested after a tip-off.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravene Section 287,174, 43(2) of the Lagos State Criminal Code Laws, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr W. B. Balogun, however, granted Omolaja bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He said the surety must be a house owner in Lagos and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Sept.6 for mention. (NAN)
