UNICEF trains 30 partners on women, child issues

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Dec. 13, 2018 (NAN) Dr Zakari Adams, the Chief Field Officer, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),bKaduna, says it has commenced training of 30 participants on “Result Based Management”.
Adams made this disclosure on Thursday in Keffi, Nasarawa State, during the three-day capacity building for 30 participants (UNICEF partners) on Result Based Management (RBM).
He said that the training aimed at improving on the lives of Nigerians, especially women and children.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three-day training was organised by UNICEF, in collaboration with NOA, in Niger state for partners from Nasarawa and Niger states, respectively.
Adams said that UNICEF was committed towards addressing the challenges facing women and children in Nigeria in order to improve on their health status and standard of living.
He said that the training would equip participants with skills that would enable them achieve result in places of their primary assignment towards tackling the plight of women and children.
“The aim of the training is to equip the participants with skills on how to apply Result Based Management into planning and reporting the programmes implementation.
“It is all about what we should report or should be result focus reports.
“UNICEF is in collaboration with the “Whole Nigeria”, through an agreement to support the government of Nigeria, at Federal and state levels, to increase the children rights situation.
“We are here working to ensure that our partners working in various ministries related to children rights are trained and their capacities raised in terms of human rights based approach programming.
“Also in terms of Result Based Management, how are we ensuring that the various programmes that we are conducting are aligned with principle of Result Based Management for effective service delivery,” he said.
He also disclosed that the training was aimed at achieving its objectives of improving on the lives of women and children in Nigeria.
“Our aim is to achieve positive results for women and children, through access to health facilities, access to good nutrition and access to education,” he said.
Adams restated the commitment of the organisation to continue to train and retrain government personnel and other volunteers of its programmes, in order to improve on the status of the children.
He added that the organisation would continue to support government in different areas of health, education among others for the overall dev elopement of country.
Mr Stanley Garuba, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, UNICEF Kaduna Field Office, in his presentation, charged the participants to use the knowledge gained for effective service delivery.
Garba spoke on the topic titled: “Human Rights Based Approach to Programme” (HRBAP).
“Everything we do in our planning activities be it in the health sector or education sector, should be on the result-based that we want to achieve in improving on the lives of women, children and other Nigerians.
“In the past we used to focus more on what we have done in terms of activities we have completed.
“But we are now shifting from focusing on activities to focusing on result that we want to see and achieve, in our target population and institution,” he said.
NAN also reports that the training brought together 15 participants each from Nasarawa and Niger states, respectively, drawn from different ministries. (NAN)
