Vote not by religious and ethnic considerations — Abrahamic Mission
By Patience Aliyu
Jos, Jan. 19, 2023 (NAN) Faith-based Abrahamic Mission has urged the public not to vote by religious and ethnic considerations.
The organisation said this on Thursday in Jos during its inter-faith peace summit on the general elections in February.
The coordinator of the group, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, pleaded with the public to lay aside sentiments and vote with their conscience.
“Religious leaders should be able to guide people to do the right thing and when you do the right thing, God will support us,” he said.
Earlier the representative of the Christian Community in Plateau, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, urged religious leaders to be mindful of their utterances and to remember that they are “models of the faith they profess”.
“When it comes to religious leaders, we are seen as models, models that will ultimately help take people of our faith to eternity and models also to the society”.
Similarly, Imam Muhammad Kassim, the Chief Imam of Kafanchan in his remarks, urged the public to realise that “leadership comes from Allah and He gives it to whomever He pleases”.
He urged the public to “accept whoever Allah gives power to and not instigate violence in the society in protest of elected officials”.
He also urged the candidates not to relent on prayers and also take cognisance that “leadership is based on trust and responsibility.
“For instance, if anybody becomes the governor of Plateau, both the Muslims and the Christians must accept it because that is the will of Allah”.
The meeting had representatives from both the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and representatives of security organisations.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
