Abuja, July 24, 2019 (NAN) A warehouse manager, Awosanya Bolaji, who allegedly drove a Toyota Camry recklessly and killed a pedestrian, on Wednesday appeared in a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja,

The police charged Bolaji, 31, who resides at No 22 GoodLuck Estate Jahi 1, Abuja  with reckless driving and manslaughter.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, told the court that on July 11 Bolaji drove a Toyota Camary car with registration No KRD 326 EP in a dangerous manner without a  driver’s licence.

Ijeoma said that Bolaji drove the said car on the Nnamdi Azikiwe express way by Wuye Bridge Abuja, dangerously without considering other road users.

She alleged that Bolaji knocked down a male pedestrian whose identity is still unknown and as a result of the accident he sustained various degrees of injuries.

Ijeoma told the court that the pedestrian was rushed to Maitama hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 27, 28, 29 and cap 548 (7) of Road Traffic Act.

Bolaji, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ijeoma prayed the court to grant him a date to open his case against the defendant.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N150,000 with a reasonable surety in like sum.

Maiwada ordered that the surety must present valid means of identification and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 27, for further hearing. (NAN)
