Lagos July 4 , 2019 (NAN) Nigeria’s ace Para Athletics gold medallist, Christian Ifeanyi, on Thursday described the three gold medals he won at the at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, in Tunis, Tunisia as special.
Christian made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reflecting on his extraordinary performance at the just-concluded Grand Prix held from June 28 to June 30.
NAN reports that Christian was among the Para athletes that represented Nigeria with a dominant display in the men’s 100m, 200m and 400m at the just-concluded T46/47 Class at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix.
He was also the reigning National Sports Festival (NSF) Champion in the T46 category of the 200m, where he won a gold medal.
Christian, a member of the Para athletes of Making of Champions (MoC) Track and Field Club, Lagos, was part of a four-man team of athletes to the Grand Prix which had Rio 2016 Paralympic Champions. He clocked a time of 11.04secs, in the T46/T47 category.
Christian told NAN that he felt great wining the three gold medals during the just-concluded event in Tunis, adding that he was grateful for the opportunity.
“I felt great winning three gold medals in my first outing for Nigeria, and I thank God Almighty who did it.
“Wow, this is the first time I am competing outside the country, it was an awesome feeling, I felt so super extraordinary, special, and professional athlete, and it was a dream come true.
“Yes, the driving force behind the victory is my heavenly father, and I thought of the few years I have desired to be there, to be a champion.
“I thought of where I came from, all the fasting and prayers of my mum, the hard training, then I said to myself this is it, it’s what I have prayed and desired for,’’ he said.
Christian said it was God who made his victory to happen, adding that he would compete to give more medals to the country.
“It is God that made that happen; I stood with the word of God that says in Joshua 1:5, 9. So, I stood and went for Gold.
“I never desired silver even before I left the country, so I give God the Glory for the success achieved,’’ he said. (NAN)
