Young female candidates advocate women inclusion in governance

Abuja, April 29, 2019 (NAN) The Coalition of Young Female Candidates (CYFC) has advocated for more inclusion of women in governance.

The National President of the group, Mrs Doris Opara made the call at news conference in Abuja on Monday.

She reiterated the demand for 35 per cent affirmative included in the constitution for women in governance, adding that politicians should desist from using it as a campaign strategy to woo the women folks.

“Political parties should reserve some positions for women during each general election. There should be other posts for women not just women leader.

“Women should be given automatic tickets and free nomination forms by their political parties.

“I therefore urge all women to rise up and fight for women inclusion in governance.

“Aba women did it 1929, we can do the same in preparation for 2023,” Opara said.

She said that government should create a bill that would support women in subsequent elections, adding that there was need to mobilise and fund campaigns.

She said that women participated poorly in the last elections, adding that government should address some of the challenges by ensuring security forces fought for women.

Opara said that the purpose for the group was to harmonise the intentions of women toward development, policy making, implementation and making better politics than it was before.

The Public Relations Officer of the group, Mrs Adaora Onyechere advised the media to play major roles during elections, adding that the media should be non-partisan in their reportage.

CYFC was set up to address the desperate gap in the field of mentoring and investing in women through capacity building by other women who were influential and bridge builders.(NAN)
