Kano April 8 2020 (NAN) Kano State Government says plan is underway to create an additional isolation centre in the state, with support from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa, made the disclosure on Wednesday at a news conference to give an update on the government’s efforts in trying to prevent Coronavirus from spreading in the state.

He said that the additional centre would be located on the outskirts of the state, since the it already had three serving the metropolitan areas of the state.

The state, he said, had so far collected samples from 46 suspected cases, and while awaiting the results of four samples, 42 had been reported negative.

According to him, we are surely battling with rumoured cases because people keep calling the help lines and when our rapid response team reach the places, they realised vague cases.

“At places with severe symptoms of Covid-19, the teams usually collect samples and send them for testing immediately,” he said.

Tsanyawa added that the state’s multi-sectoral taskforce on Covid-19 under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna, had been at its best.

He explained that Kano’s vulnerability,  made it necessary to be proactive in preventing the spread of the virus in the city.

While assuring the people of more commitment on the government’s side, Tsanyawa appealed to the citizens of the state to be law abiding as the efforts of the government was to protect them.

NAN reports that Kano with support from Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Alhaji Abdussamad Rabiu, boasts of three standard isolation centres. (NAN)
