Lagos, April. 26, 2020 (NAN) Some traders of the Balogun Business Association (BBA), one of the markets in the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, on Sunday, thronged the market gate to receive food items worth N9 million from the association’s management.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the traders defied the morning rain and spaciously lined up to maintain social distancing to get their relief items which included, 5kg bags of rice, maggi seasoning, tomatoes and noodles.
The traders, who expressed gratitude to the management, said that, the food items came on time and would go a long way to stabilise family daily needs in days to come.
Mrs Ifeoma Anosike, a Widow and Confectionery Dealer, said that she had exhausted all the money she had in feeding her family of four that the late husband left.
“This lockdown started after I stocked my shop with wares ahead of the Easter selling season with just little cash left on me. The lockdown has taken its negative impact on my family welfare and my stocks.
“My fear is that my stocks like gala and some biscuits must have expired by now for they have been in lockup in the store for close to four weeks running,” Anosike said.
The widow, who lamented her plight occasioned by the lockdown and its attendant loss of investment capital through damaged wares, appealed to government to come to her aid with grants to enable her continue.
Mr Tony Obih, BBA President, told NAN that the items which were to cushion the impact of the lockdown on members, came from the association’s purse and few individual donors.
He advised members to remain claim and obey government’s directives on safety, saying that the method of sharing the items was six plazas in the market per day.
NAN reports that the daily sharing programme would continue until members in other plazas received their share. (NAN)
