Reject revolution calls, Nasarawa Speaker urges Nigerians

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Aug. 10, 2019 (NAN) the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called on Nigerians to unite and reject revolutionary calls by some unpatriotic elements in the interest of peace and development.

He made the appeal on Saturday in his Eid-el-Kabir message issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi.

Abdullahi also urged Nigerians to pray for the country to overcome its current challenges for development to reign.

The speaker said that revolution was not a solution to the problems confronting the country, saying what Nigerians needed now is unity, patriotism and fervent prayers to take the country to the next level of development.

He emphasised the need for religious and traditional leaders to continue to preach peace, love and unity to their followers.

Besides, Abdullahi called on Nigerians to shun all forms of sentiments, be tolerant and embrace one another for the betterment of the society.

He urged the Muslim community in the country to use the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir to strengthen their relationship with Allah and fellow human beings to build an egalitarian society.

The speaker enjoined well-meaning Nigerians to support the less-privileged in the society in order to cushion their economic hardships.

He further advised Nigerians to be security conscious and support the efforts of security agents in curtailing crime in the country.

Abdullahi charged the people of the state to give their maximum support to President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Abdullahi Sule to enable them succeed in the tasks ahead of them.

“I also want to appeal to Nigerians to live in peace, be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and tolerate one another in the interest of development,” he said. (NAN)

Speaker attributes Al-Makura’s developmental strides to executive, legislative relationship

Lafia, May 29, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has attributed the development stride recorded by former Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to a robust working relationship between Al-Makura and members of the fifth Assembly in the state.
Abdullahi made this known on Wednesday in Lafia while fielding questions from newsmen on the sidelines of the inuaguration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule.
He said that effective synergy between the executive and the legislative is key to meaningful development, hence the need of his leadership to give the outgone governor the needed cooperation in the last four years.
According to him, the effective and good relationship between Al-Makura and my leadership is the bedrock of the achievements that Al-Makura has achieved.
“And everybody attested to the fact that we have a prefect relationship between the executive and the legislature. I am proud to achieve that.
“Gov. Al-Makura’s administration came on board in 2011. I was not part of the government in 2011, but we were monitoring some of his activities outside the state.
“And then because of his laudable achievements at that time, some of us picked interest in his government and somebody like me I prayed so hard for God to give me the opportunity to be part of his government and luckily in 2015, I contested and won election as member of the state House of Assembly.
“When I came, I did not only became a member but also became the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
“That afforded me an opportunity to work closely with him and I discovered that Al-Makura has passion for the state, he has the fear of God.
“And then in fact I decided to give him all my heart to work with him so that collectively we are going to achieve and take Nasarawa State to the higher level.
“I can proudly say today we were able to achieve that because Al-Makura has done a lot in all most all sectors of the economy which had direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state,’’ he said.
Abdullahi wished Al-Makura well in his new political sojourn as a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The state number three citizen therefore called on the people of the state to support the new governor to enable him to also succeed. (NAN)

Children’s Day: Speaker seeks collective efforts to eradicate child labour, abuses

Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 27, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called for collective efforts to eradicate rising cases of child labour and abuses in the country.
Abdullahi appealed for joint effort to eradicate the menace of hawking and begging among children for societal development.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Press Secretary, Alhaji Jibrin Gwamna, in Keffi in commemoration of the Children’s Day, observed annually on May 27.
The statement quoted the speaker as saying that if parents, stakeholders join hands with government in tackling child abuses in the country it will go a long way in promoting peace and societal development.
Abdullahi decried violence against children, urging parents and guardians to strive to ensure good education and proper upbringing of their children and wards for a better society.
He described education as the best instrument to fight poverty and other related abuses on children, hence the need for parents to give topmost priority to the education of their children.
“Education is the leeway to success in life, a route to escape from poverty box and it is the bedrock of every society as knowledge is power,” the statement said.
The number three citizen described children as special gift from God, while urging parents to take adequate care of their children in their interest and for the overall development of the country.
Besides, he advised parents to live an exemplary life by inculcating good moral values in their children.
Abdullahi congratulated the children on their day, describing their day as unique and worth celebrating.
He called for special prayers for the survival, good health and growth of children as leaders of tomorrow.
The speaker reaffirmed the state assembly’s commitment to always protect the right of the children in order to better their lots. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 24, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called on Nigerians to support the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (I-G) Mohammed Adamu to enable him deliver on his mandate.
He made appeal in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Keffi.
This followed the endorsement of Adamu by the Police Council and subsequent confirmation by President Muhmmadu Buhari as Acting I-G to a substantive I-G.
Abdullahi described as good omen the confirmation of Adamu considering his experience to tackle the nation’s insecurity challenges.
“We are commending the Police Council headed by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirming the appointment of Ag. I-G Mohammed Adamu as substantive Inspector-General of Police.
“We are expressing hope that with the experience, passion, commitment and professionalism exhibited by the acting I-G, his confirmation as substantive I-G is a good omen for the nation’s security.
“This is why President Buhari deserves commendation for his wise decision,” Abdullahi said.
He congratulated the new I-G and prayed God to guide him to succeed in his assignment especially at this security trial moment of the nation.
NAN recalls that the Police Council headed by the president confirmed the appointment of Adamu as I-G on May 23.
A member of the Council and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, made this known to State House correspondents at the end of the council’s meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The president appointed Adamu on acting capacity on Jan. 15, following the retirement of his predecessor, Ibrahim Idris. (NAN)

Nasarawa varsity, great asset of Nasarawa State – Speaker

Lafia, May 13,2019(NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has said that the state university in Keffi would remain a great and outstanding asset of the state government.

Abdullahi said this on Monday when he received the Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, and his management team, during a courtesy call in Lafia.

He said the state was proud to own the institution, adding that the state House of Assembly would support the university with every necessary legislation.

He said that legislative backing that would enable the university achieve its prospects of being one of the world class citidals of learning in tbe country would be ensured.

“Nasarawa State University is one of the great and outstanding assets of the state.

“The state assembly will continue to give the institution every necessary support through legislative backing to enable it succeed.

“Education is the best legacy government should leave for its citizenry, hence the need for our support,” he said.

Abdullahi while felicitating with the VC for his recent confirmation from Acting to substantive Vice Chancellor, enjoined him to build on the solid foundation he put in place so far.

The speaker restated the continued commitment of the House to pass resolutions and enact bills that have direct bearing on the education sector and called for its sustenance.

Earlier, Mohammed told the speaker that they were in his office to felicitate with him for his re-election to the state Assembly considering his track records of achievements.

The vice chancellor urged the speaker to consolidate on his achievements by initiating people’s oriented programmes that would have direct bearing on the people of his constituency and the state at large. (NAN)

Dutse, May 9, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Jigawa House of Assembly, Alhaji Isa Idris (APC-Gwaram), has been impeached.
He was replaced by a former speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Idris Garba (APC-Gumel) on Thursday in Dutse.
The plenary that removed Idris was presided by Speaker Pre-Tempo, Mr Hamza Bala (APC-Kazure), following his nomination by the Clerk of the House, Malam Hamisu Attahir.
Other principal officers removed along with the speaker were the Chief Whip and the Majority Leader of the assembly, Messrs Aminu Sale and Sani Isyaku, respectively.
They were replaced with Messrs Kayes Abdallah (APC-Malammadori) as Chief Whip and Bala Hamza (APC-Kazaure) as Majority Leader.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the re-elected speaker (Idris Garba) was impeached in January 2017 by 25 out of the 30 members of the House.
The legislators had impeached Garba due to alleged high handedness and abuse of power.
In his acceptance speech, the new speaker promised to carry all his colleagues along in the discharge of his duty.
He, therefore, sought for support and cooperation of all the members.
Answering a question on the impeachment, the new speaker replied “democracy took its course’’.
“My dear colleagues, I just want to be brief.
“This is so wonderful and this is also a remarkable day which I will never forget in my life.
“This is the second time I am being sworn in as the Speaker of this Honourable House.
“In 2015, I saw some signs that I would be elected as the Speaker, but today I never expected that to happen.
“Therefore, I want to use this opportunity to extend my appreciation for the confidence you reposed in me.
“I want to assure that I will never let you down. You know my capabilities and I think that is why you brought me back.
“So even though we have few weeks to go, I assure that we will do everything possible to settle our pending issues in this honourable house,’’ the new speaker said.
On the allegations labelled against him when he was impeached in 2017, the speaker said: “The allegations were not substantiated and I was not indicted’’. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 2, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called on members-elect of the state legislature to work in harmony with the incoming administration in the interest of peace and development.
Abdullahi made appeal in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, in Keffi on Thursday.
The statement said the speaker made the call while declaring open a four-day workshop organised for returning and newly elected members and other staff of the state assembly in Jos Plateau.
The theme of the training is: “Legislative practice and procedures”.
Abdullahi in the statement said that cordial working relationship between the executive and legislature would not only promote peace but would bring the much touted dividends of democracy to the people.
“Working in harmony with the executive arm will not only promote peace across the state but will also bring the much needed dividends of democracy to the door steps of our people that we are representing.
“Both the executive and the legislature need each other as arms of a government and they should be seen working together if the state must grow,” the statement said.
According to him, the people of the state are expect more vigorous and robust legislative proceedings from the returning and new members when inaugurated for the progress of the state.
Abdullahi urged the participants to take the training with seriousness in order to contribute their quota to the development of their constituencies, the state and the country at large.
The speaker further urged his colleagues to be good ambassadors of the state while in Jos, assuring the people of the state of the assembly’s readiness to continue to enact laws and pass resolutions that would have direct bearing on their lives.
According to the statement, the workshop featured different paper presentations by legislative stakeholders and other professionals. (NAN)

Lafia, March 29, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has assured people of the state of sustained robust legislature when the sixth assembly is inaugurated.
Abdullahi (APC-Umaisha/Ugya state constituency) gave the assurance on Friday shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lafia.
The speaker also promised an all inclusive, sound and quality legislation for the development of the state.
He thanked his constituents for re-electing him for a second term and assured them of better days ahead.
“I dedicate my re-election victory to God and the people of my constituency for their support and votes.
“They have seen what I have done before to better their standard of living in the area of people oriented projects like education, women and youths empowerment.
“I will do more and they will see a lot of positive changes, and I will carry everybody along while discharging my duties,” he said.
Abdullahi solicited for prayers and support from his constituents and the state at large to enable the 6th assembly to succeed.
He commended INEC for conducting free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in the state.
The speaker drummed support for leaders at all levels to enable them succeed in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.
Besides, he urged the people of the state to live peacefully with one another, be law abiding and respect constituted authorities in the interest of development.

Lafia, March 27, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has called on people of the state to support the new Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd), to enable his succeed in his new assignment as a traditional ruler.
Abdullahi made the appeal on Wednesday while reacting to the appointments of the new Emir of Lafia, Emir of Awe and Osu Kadoko of Kadarko by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia that God is the one that gives leadership to whomever he wills and at any time, calling on citizens of the state to support leaders at all levels.
The speaker therefore urged people of the state to see the appointments of Bage and the two other traditional rulers as an act of God.
Ibrahim while felicitating with the new Emir of Lafia, urged him to bring his wealth of experience to bear for the overall growth and development of the state.
“I want to use this medium to congratulate the new Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage, the new Emir of Awe, Alhaji Isa Abubakar Umar, and Mr Umar Dodo as the new Osu Kadoko of Kadarko, a third class traditional ruler in Keana Local Government Area.
“I want to assure the new Emir of Lafia of the state assembly’s readiness to collaborate with the traditional council in the area of peace promotion in the state.
“The legislators are ready to enact laws and pass resolutions that have direct bearing on lives of the people of the state,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Mr Haruna Osegba, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, announced the appointments after a meeting of the state traditional council in Lafia.
Osegba said the appointees were recommended by their college of selectors, ratified by the state traditional council and approved by the governor.
NAN also reports that the appointments followed the death of their predecessors. (NAN)

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), March 22, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has assured members of his constituents that he would fulfil his campaign promises.
Abdullahi (APC-Umaisha/Ugya constituency) gave the assurance on Thursday when he paid a thank you visit to the people of his constituency in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Area of the state.
The speaker said that he was at his constituency to appreciate his people for re-electing him for a second term.
“You have seen what I have done in my first tenure towards improving on our standard of living.
“I will fulfil my second term electioneering campaign promises made to you which include continue initiation of people oriented programmes by God’s grace.
“I have initiated different programmes such as scholarship to students, youths and women empowerment, among others.
“I am here to thank the people of my constituency for supporting and voting APC candidates at all levels during the Presidential and National Assembly elections as well as the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
“I have always said that this is the time we should face the reality because for us to get more government’s presence, we must be part of the government.
“It is only the APC government that will deliver the much-needed dividends of democracy to the electorate and we thank you for voting APC.
“I want to assure you (constituents) of fulfilling my campaign promises in order to better the standard of living of my people and Nigerians at large,’’ he said.
Abdullahi assured the constituents of his continued desire to operate an open door policy and to carry everybody along while discharging his duties.
He called on his constituents and Nigerians to continue to give their maximum support and cooperation to the APC-led government at all levels to enable them succeed.
Abdullahi, who is also the Vice Chairman, North-Central, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said that every leader needed support from the public to succeed.
The speaker urged Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and tolerate themselves irrespective of their affiliations. (NAN)
