Lafia, March 19, 2019 (NAN) The Egbira National Development Association (ENDA) has called on members-elect of the 6th Nasarawa State House of Assembly to re-elect Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi as their Speaker.
The President of the group, Alhaji Gani Shafa, made the appeal on Tuesday when he led members on a visit to the speaker in Lafia.
Shafa said their visit was to congratulate AbdulIahi on his re-election as APC member representing Umaisha/Ugya state constituency.
He extolled the virtues of the legislator and commended him for bringing the dividends of democracy to the people of the constituency and the state at large.
“We are proud of you; you united the fifth Assembly as well as attracted development to our constituency, Toto Local Government and the state at large.
“Your leadership qualities have brought about the good working relationship between the executive and the legislature in the state.
“Our prayer is for you to retain your position as speaker for second term so as to lead the forthcoming sixth assembly in order to take the state to the next level of development,” he said.
Responding, the Abdullahi thanked them for the visit and identifying with his quest to win the speakership for the second time.
He noted that as an ambassador of peace, he should be seen doing the needful in ensuring peace among members of the legislature, the executive and the state at large.
The speaker reiterated his support and loyalty to the association at all times in the overriding interest of the society.
He however advised the Egbira community to love and tolerate all persons irrespective of their religious and political affiliations.
The speaker assured them of better days ahead, especially with the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and the emergence of Mr Abdullahi Sule as governor-elect of the state. (NAN)

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), March 9, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has predicted victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Alhaji Abdullahi Sule, in Saturday’s election.
He made his prediction shortly after casting his vote at Galadima B polling unit in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Area of the state.
Abdullahi (APC-Umaisha) is seeking re-election.
He told newsmen that he was satisfied with the general conduct of the elections.
“I am happy with the peaceful conduct of the election. The electorate also conducted themselves peacefully during the elections.
“I am going to win and Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the state APC governorship candidate is also going to win,” he said.
The state number three citizen called on the electorate to continue to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election period.
He commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Abdullahi also urged Nigerians to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities in the interest of peace.
“I further call on the electorate to live in peace and tolerate one another considering the importance of peace to societal development,’’ he said. (NAN)

Corps members’ accident: Abia Speaker urges motorists to exercise caution

Umuahia, Nov. 15, 2018 (NAN) Mr Chikwendu Kalu, the Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, has called on motorists to exercise caution to prevent unpleasant circumstances, particularly as the Yuletide approaches.
Kalu said this on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, when he visited members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were involved in a road mishap.
The speaker advised road users to always ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles before putting them on the roads.
He attributed most accidents on the roads to reckless driving, adding that they can be avoided if caution is exercised.
Kalu said that the lives of Nigerians must be first line charge, even as he called on the Federal Government to expedite action on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that about 18 Corps members were involved in a motor accident on Nov. 12, along Isiala Ngwa junction, near Army Checkpoint, on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
The victims, who were members of Batch C, Stream 1, 2018, deployed to Abia, were being conveyed in an 18-seater bus to their places of primary assignments in Aba and Osisioma, after their orientation course at Umuna, Bende Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, who preferred anonymity, the bus had burst tyre and somersaulted twice, thereby leaving about nine of the corps members in critical conditions.
It however took the intervention of the speaker who was in a convoy along the scene to rescue the victims and rushed them to hospitals in Umuahia and Aba.
However, Kalu expressed satisfaction with the attention given to the NYSC members by authorities of FMC, and has undertaken to write off all their cost of treatment.
Dr Stanley Okerulu, who was attending to the victims, expressed satisfaction that they were responding to treatment.
He said that five of the victims had already been discharged, while the remaining four, including three females and a male, were being monitored.
Okerulu, who serves as an intermediary between the hospital and the NYSC, said that two of the patients had clavical fractures and were due for surgery.
He said all the acute challenges had been taken care of, assuring that “we are waiting for them to recover”. (NAN)

Nasarawa Speaker says Gov. Al-Makura `great asset’

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Nov. 15, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has described Gov. Tanko Al-Makura as “a great asset” to the state.
Abdullahi said this in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Alhaji Jibrin Gwamna, in Keffi on Thursday.
The Speaker made the commendation to mark the seven and half years of Al-Makura’s administration and 66th birthday anniversary of the governor.
He urged the people of the state to appreciate Al-Makura’s contributions to the overall development of the state by supporting and praying for the governor to succeed in the task ahead of him.
Abdullahi praised the giant strides of the governor in all facets of life in the state, urging him to keep the flag flying to enable the residents of the state to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
He lauded the projects executed by the governor in the last seven and half years which have impacted the lives of the people of the state and called for sustenance of these projects.
While felicitating with the governor on his birthday, he observed that the 66 birthday of the governor was worth celebrating in the light of his giant strides in almost all sectors of the state’s economy.
According to the speaker, what the present administration has done since its inception in the areas of education, agricultural, economic, health, judicial, commercial sector, among others, have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
Abdullahi however advised the governor to remain focused and committed, assuring him of the assembly’s continued support in the implementation of his good policies and programmes.
The statement further called on the people of the state and Nigerians to pray for the governor and president as well as other leaders to enable them succeed in delivering more people-oriented projects, noting that prayer is key to the success of every individual and government.
Besides, the speaker urged the people of the state and Nigerians to continue to live in peace and tolerance irrespective of their affiliation. (NAN)

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), Oct. 6, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Issa Ibraheem, a Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Nasarawa State House of Assembly, says that the party will win a landslide victory in the Umaisha/Ugya state constituency during the 2019 general election.
Ibraheem made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday at Umaisha, Umaisha Development Area of the state.
NAN reports that the incumbent Speaker of the state legislature, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, is representing Umaisha/Ugya constituency.
But Ibraheem said that he was massively called upon by the people of the constituency to dethrone the speaker and ensure effective representation and purposeful leadership at the state assembly.
The SDP candidate listed the provision of solar power, roads construction, skills acquisition programmes, infrastructural facilities as his topmost priorities, if given the mandate in 2019.
Ibraheem appreciated the stakeholders and members of the party for giving him the opportunity to fly SDP’s flag, while assuring that he will not fail the electorate.
He also promised timely provision of fertiliser and other agricultural inputs to the people of his constituency, if elected.
He noted that agriculture remained key to the socio-economic development of any country, hence his desire to prioritise the sector so as to boost food production, address unemployment and improve the revenue of profile of the state
“I will also provide fertiliser and other farm inputs to farmers in my constituency so as to boost food production and to reduce youth restiveness.
“It will also reduce the massive unemployment rate in my constituency and to boost the revenue profile of the state and the country at large,’’ he said.
“It is the stakeholders and who is who in Umaisha that called on me to contest for this seat and because of that I was affirmed by them as the sole candidate of SDP.
“I answered their calls in order to provide effective and purposeful leadership, as well as to key into good policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the constituency,’’ he said. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), Aug. 21, 2018 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has urged Muslims to use the Sallah period to offer special prayers for hitch-free elections in 2019.
Abdullahi made the call in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, in Keffi on Tuesday.
The speaker said that fervent prayers by Muslims and other Nigerians would not only ensure a successful poll in 2019, but would also promote peace and unity in the country.
“There is the need for all to guard against hate speeches; let’s do the right thing and intensify prayers for a hitch-free general election and for the emergence of leaders that will deliver for the people,’’ he said.
Abdullahi called on religious, political and traditional leaders to preach for peace and unity among their people as 2019 general elections draw nearer.
“I want to congratulate Muslims and other Nigerians on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Let all of us use this period to pray fervently for the successful conduct of 2019 general elections.
“Let use this period to reconcile with ourselves and God in case we offended each other and God in the interest of peace in order to get more God blessings and favour,” the speaker said.
He enjoined Muslim faithful to use the Sallah period to show love to both Muslims and non-Muslims, especially the less privileged in order to give them a sense of belonging.
Abdullahi, who commended developmental projects executed by President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nassarawa State, also called on citizens to continue to pray and support them to succeed.
The speaker re-assured the people of the state that the legislature would continue to enact laws and pass resolutions that would be in the best interest of the people of the state.
He solicited for support to enable them succeed and further called on the citizens, especially youths to be law abiding, peaceful and remain committed to constituted authorities. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), June 15, 2018 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi, has urged religious leaders to preach message of peace, unity and tolerance among Nigerians during and after Sallah celebration.
Abdullahi made the call on Thursday in his Sallah message signed by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
He congratulated the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
He urged them to use the lessons learnt to show love to Muslims and non-Muslims for peace and progress to reign supreme in the country.
The speaker re-emphasised the need for Muslims to use the festive period to show love and care to their neighbours especially the less-privileged in the society to give them a sense of belonging.
He advised the people to ensure they reconcile with God and those they have offended for the good of all and for the stability and progress of the nation.
The speaker urged Muslim faithful to ensure they practice all that Islam preaches and teaches.
“We must maintain the God-fearing acts which we exhibited during the fasting period.
“We must sustain the lessons and change of attitude learnt during the Ramadan fast,” he said.
According to him, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) preached peace, love and unity, urging Muslims to emulate same.
Besides, Abdullahi called on Nigerians to intensify more prayers for the country to overcome its challenges especially security and economy.
He enjoined Nigerians to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 27, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged parents and guardians to provide good education and proper upbringing of their children for a better society.
The speaker made the appeal in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Alhaji Jibrin Gwamna, and made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi on Sunday.
Abdullahi described education as the best instrument to fight poverty and other related abuses on children, hence the need for parents to give topmost priority to the education of their wards.
The speaker described children as special gifts from God while urging parents to take adequate care of them for a prosperous society.
He also urged parents to live an exemplary life by inculcating good moral values on their children.
“Education is the leeway to success in life and a route to escape from poverty box, and it is the bed rock of any society as knowledge is power.
“When one is well informed, he or she can move to places beyond his local environment,” the statement said.
Abdullahi condemned violence against children, calling for all hands to be on deck in order to fight violence against violence.
He congratulated the children on their day, describing the day as unique and worth celebrating.
According to him, there will be permanent peace in the society if parents instill moral values on their children and to live a life worth of emulation for the overall development of the country.
Besides, the speaker called for special prayers for the survival, good health and growth of children as leaders of tomorrow.
He underscored the need for all, especially leaders, to brace up and put smiles on the faces of children, especially the less privileged.
Abdullahi restated the commitment of the state legislature to continue to pass resolutions and enact laws that have direct bearing on the lives of the children.

Lafia, Feb. 27, 2018 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has advised workers across the country to embrace dialogue as a means of addressing their welfare issues rather than industrial action.

Abdullahi addressed newsmen in Lafia on Tuesday to mark the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) 40th anniversary on Feb. 28th.

He congratulated the NLC for clocking 40 amidst all odds, describing the congress stewardship in the country as purposeful and worth celebrating.

The speaker acknowledged the significant roles of Nigerian workers in nation building and called on the organised labour to sustain the good working relationship with government at all levels for the benefit of all Nigerians.

“I also want to use this important period to sincerely commend and appreciate the present good working relationship between Nasarawa state labour union and government and I hope for its sustenance.

“The present administration under Gov. Tanko Al-Mkaura is labour friendly and will continue to improve on their welfare as the country economic situation gets better.

“The state assembly as an institution underscore the present good working relationship between the state’s labour union and government and we assure of the assembly’s continued commitment to support government for improved welfare of civil servants in the state.

“The importance as well as the contribution of workers to the development of any society cannot be overemphasized; hence the need for effective synergy between labour union leaders and the government for improved workers welfare,” he said.

Abdullahi described the government and workers as two sides of the same coin, hence the need for synergy, understanding and cooperation between them for the benefit of all.

He said workers remained the engine room for the success of every government, assuring the workers of the state assembly commitment to continue to pass resolutions that have direct bearing on the lives of civil servants and other citizens.

The speaker also called on the workers to continue to be dedicated to their duties as well as be God fearing in their places of primary assignments for optimal productivity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigerian workers will on Feb. 28 be celebrating “NLC at 40” with the theme “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: National Unity and Social Justice”. (NAN)

Daura (Katsina State), Dec. 28, 2017 (NAN) The Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Kusada, has attributed the existing cordial working relationship between executive and legislative arms of government in the state to the transparent disposition of Gov. Aminu Masari.
Kusada (APC), said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Thursday.
He said Masari has upheld the country’s and APC constitutions in the discharge of his official functions, noting that the governor carried the remaining arms of government along.
Kusada reiterated the commitment and determination of the APC-led administration at the federal, state and local government levels in transforming the nation as well as building a brighter and promising future for the citizens.
He said Masari’s administration has succeeded in instilling discipline and accountability in the state civil service, stressing “we (Katsina State Government) also adhere strictly to the nation’s procurement law’’.
The speaker pledged that the House would continue to enact laws that would accelerate the socio-economic development of the state.
“We (legislators) would not relent in the discharge of our constitutional mandate,’’ said Kusada.
He lauded the efforts of federal government in repositioning the nation through transparent and accountable leadership, stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari deserves commendation over his anti-corruption crusade, war against insecurity and rejuvenation of the economy.
He noted that the president has restored hope and confidence among Nigerians, saying “Nigerians are now highly respected and regarded even at the international community due to the positive change in leadership of the country’’.
Kusada was appointed Speaker last year following the removal of his predecessor, Alhaji Sabiu Muduru. (NAN)
