Teenager sentenced to 6 months community service for stealing phone

Kafanchan (Kaduna) March 25, 2020 (NAN) A Kafanchan Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced an 18-year-old man, Blessed Samson, to six months of community service for stealing a mobile phone.

Samson was charged with theft, contrary to section 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Ibudu, had told the court that one Charity John of Takau area reported the matter at the station on March 22.

Ibudh said the complainant alleged that her Vivo phone valued at N3, 500 was stolen from her son by an unknown person in the month of February.

He noted that during police investigation it was discovered that the defendant committed the act and the phone recovered from him.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty, and begged the court for leniency.

The prosecution thereafter prayed the court to try him summarily in line with section 125 (8) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

In her ruling, Magistrate Mary Adams sentenced him to six months of community work. (NAN)
